Celtics shoot down Hawks

This series was not supposed to go 7 games. And the Boston Celtics sent a message to the Atlanta Hawks and the rest of the NBA with the 99-65 pumbaling of the Hawks at the TD Banknorth Garden.

The Hawks had no answers for anything that the Celtics did, which was supposed to be the way things went. Paul Pierce defended his team’s home court by putting up 22 points. Kevin Garnett played a great game pounding home 18 points and snagging 11 rebounds. He also sent a message to Zaza Pachulia by standing straight up in Zaza’a path and letting the big Hawks forward run into him and get introduced with parquet floor.

Earlier in the game, Rajon Rondo got straight up gang tackled to the floor by Marvin Williams, who was booted from the game. Giving the Celtics forward a few free throw shots, he made them both. At that point the Celtics were already up 51-28 and it looked like more of a frustration play on Williams part. The Celtics then turned into a team that was pilling up the score, tossing behind the back passes and slamming home crowd shattering dunks. The Celtics starters all were on the bench by 10 minutes to go in the game, letting the back up players get some time and show the Hawks starters that even they are better than them.

The crowd knew the win was coming for the entire second half with chants like “We Want Cleveland” and towards the end doing their best impersonations of the Montreal hockey fans (whose team was eliminated last night) singing the good-bye song.

The Celtics will be off tomorrow and need to begin to focus on the Cleveland Cavaliers who will come to town on Tuesday to begin the best of 7 series.

I knew it was gonna happen. As tempting as it was to pick ATL, Bostons not gonna lose at home. But the seven games will take a toll on Boston in someway. Whether it's fatigue, mental issues, or motivation for other teams to beleive that Boston isn't the same team in the playoffs as they are in the regular season

I don't like it, they should wait for everybody, it should be an advantage of closing out the series early.

They should also re-seed the teams between rounds (like the NFL and the NHL), instead of a static bracket system.

I give Atlanta credit. They never got intimidated and took the series right at Boston. The team has heart and have shown they have something now to grow on. Way to go, Hawks!

The way they played at home, you are correct. In Boston they were the 8 seed that won less than half their games in the regular season.

If I were a Hawks fan I'd be looking forward to next season.

The Southeast division is suddenly nothing to laugh at. Atlanta, Washington, Olando, oh my.

We'll know nothing until after game 4 of the Cleveland Series. If the Celtic's win either game 3 or 4 then they are fine, if not LeBron will bounce them from the playoffs.

I think the message the Hawks sent to the rest of the league is more telling...the Celtics ain't all that.

The Celtics played horrible in Atlanta, we'll see if they woke the hell up and play like they can when they get to Cleveland.

Atlanta looked very good here, and have a nice base to build from. Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Horford. They picked up Mike Bibby and have the good coach in Mike Woodson. While Boston looked lazy, the Hawks, with 30 fewer season wins, conceded nothing. Very good basketball. Does Boston have the heart to advance again? We'll see ...
