Carolina Panthers Mini Camp - take 1

Just one week after the 2008 NFL draft and a lot of teams (if not all) held 'mandatory' mini-camps. I tell you, as a fan, it almost doesn't matter what the press sees, there is almost always a positive spin this time of year. It's almost like watching the NFL-films team highlights. They can make teams that went 1-15 sound like Super Bowl contenders! LOL

If you found this blog hoping for some profoundly deep insight I may disappoint you. I am not a Super fan. I don't attend summer camps to try and watch players and get autographs. I don't do the tailgate parties before games, and I don't make a trip to 'mecca' (in my case Charlotte, NC) to see my team play. I am just an out of town fan who really enjoys following my team.

Having said all that, what I am coming away from all the press I am reading about my team (most especially from the Charlotte Observer) is I am wondering if the John Kasay era is over in Charlotte. And I don't say that lightly. John is my all time favorite NFL player, and that's saying a lot because I have really liked players like John Riggins, Art Monk, Jerry Rice. But I liked John for his heart towards God, and his off the field character. Art Monk is a very, very close second. :) There is a kid, Rhys Lloyd, who is showing some really good promise. I will be watching this battle. :)

Julius Peppers was worked at only one position, right defensive end. This makes me happy as a fan. Moving him all over the field last year did not work out very well. Put this man where he is comfortable and let him lose. He's already proven that he is a force to be reckoned with.

And it seems like Jake is doing well in his recovery. Matt Moore looked good at the end of last season, but I want Jake to come back and do well. I like his leadership on this team. He's no Joe Montana, but he is steady.

Well, that's all I have for now...

Kasay's not going anywhere until he retires. I don't see his leg strength or accuracy diminishing drastically this season, which is what it would take for that to happen.

The guy they brought in, Rhys Lloyd, will be used a kickoff specialist IF he makes the roster. Kasay's not going anywhere.

I'm also pretty damn ecstatic to see Peppers lining up at RE FINALLY. It's his preferred position and it's about damn time. Jake is looking like he'll be good to go by the time the season starts.

Good to see another Panther fan on here btw.
