Cardinals to the Super Bowl; Warner Cashes In

Congratulations to the Arizona Cardinals for making their first Super Bowl, especially since I had them beating Philly. My condolences to Donovan McNabb, a genuinely fine QB, whose life will now be a living hell for failing to get the Eagles to the Super Bowl again, despite overachieving to get this far. However, it's Kurt Warner who engineered the Cardinals unlikely run to Tampa, especially today throwing four touchdowns, including three to Larry Fitzgerald. He completed 21 of 28 passes for 279 yards with no interceptions and those 4 touchdowns.

Speaking of overachieving, Kurt Warner who started the season as Matt Leinart's backup is now passing his way into a pretty nice paycheck thanks to the bonuses [1] built into his contract. He earned $1.5 million in performance bonuses during the regular season and has already banked bonuses totalling $2 million for getting the Cardinals to the Super Bowl. He will get another $500,000 if the Cardinals can win in Tampa, doubling his salary. Not a bad few weeks of work, don't you think.

I don't know if McNabb's life will be a living hell. He's a millionaire.

I bet when they penned that $2 million bonus for a Super Bowl appearance, nobody took it seriously.

Cardinals/Steelers. Wow, quite an unlikely matchup. Arizona's SB appearance seems to be one year too late. It would've been something if they got to play in last year's SB in their own stadium.

A good game. Arizona played very well. It was hard to watch. That play on Curtis I believe was a Pass interference but no call. It happens. Refs are human.

I'm surprised Fitz hurt us as bad as he did. Our guys knew who warner was going to go to all game, and did nothing to stop it. I'm agitated at that. I know everyonegrows old of hearing it, but, I think it's time for Reid to go and get a change of scenery in. That last play for laterals, I didn't like, you had a better chance heaving it up to Jackson or Baskett.

Overall a good game, poor defense for the Eagles and a good luck to the Cards, beat the Steelers please, I hate them :)

Get fucking bent...Arizona is a fraud...

Between the defense not being able to stop jack shit when it mattered, McNabb missing receivers all day, receivers dropping the balls they didn't miss and refs blowing calls all day...this game was miserable

and after all that, the Eagles still had a lead in the 4th quarter...

what a fucking fraud team, fraud owner and fraud fans...if there's like 3 of you who actually followed the Cards in 1988 then god bless you

otherwise, go suck on a sewer pipe and talk to some Rays fans...

I agree that Philly did everything they could to give this game to the Cards. They couldn't catch. McNabb couldn't hit a receiver in stride. Heck, they couldn't even handle the stunts from the Az defensive line.

It's not like the Eagles didn't catch any breaks themselves.

>A kickoff that went out of bounds, giving great field position.
>The fumble after the interception in the first half.
>The mysterious guy/ball out of bounds call late in the first half.

Johnson did a great job adjusting in the second half and finally pressuring Warner.

I was genuinely impressed with the clock eating drive that the Cardinals put up the the 4th quarter. Remember that to that point, the eagles defense had dominated the Cardinals the entire second half.

Geez, bitter much, Justin? If I had railed about the Giants like that last year, people would have kicked my ass up and down this site for being a "whiny Pats fan"...

The bottom line is that Arizona's a nice story and Kurt Warner is easy to root for. I don't think they'll beat PIT, but you have to respect the way they hung in there and came back against the Eagles.

I can no longer deny Arizona is a fraud. Larry Fitzgerald is a beast, Kurt Warner is fantastic, and their defense is scary fast.

If there is anyone who is a fraud now, I look at Mr. Donovan McNabb...1-5 in conference championship/Super Bowl games, along with his friend, Andy Reid.

Oh well, it's okay JuT, because of Arizona's success I officially have little hope to go with for next season if there are no major changes in their organization.

Another typical Donovan McNabb-Andy Reid Choke job...

Like the Titans have been saying about the Ravens...they play ten times and the Eagles win 9...

Their Fraudulent...i have no problem saying that...the Bucs in 2002/03 were fraudulent...

Why do I torture myself with this team...I got sucked right the hell in and they kicked me in the nuts...again...

And yeah Davis, I'm bitter

It was the fucking Cardinals..they suck...if the Eagles can't beat the worst franchise...maybe in all of pro-sports, then what hope is there to ever win?!

Jim Johnson got torn the fuck apart...Todd Haley and that offense owned him...he adjusted but Super Bowl teams:

A) stop last minute drives

B) have last minute drives

to win...

I think I know how Yankees and Red Sox fans felt watching the Rays...but at least you saw the Rays kicking ass all season...

Only if it is the same guys from last year that are playing.

What really has be frightened is the possibility of Matt Leinart getting a Super Bowl ring having done nothing, while guys like Jay Cutler miss the playoffs routinely.

I was gonna say, the Rays are actually good. This really is more like the Giants last year. Eli. Plaxico. Super Bowl-winning drive... That shit actually happened, so you deal with it, take it like a man.

Let me put it this way...The eagles went out and beat perhaps the best team in the league (and probably best in the NFC) and then lay an egg versus Arizona...a team that made the playoffs in spite of itself... Being an Eagles fan is like having the sports version of blue balls...

And I said last year the Giants had no business being in the playoffs...

getting hot at the right time is fine...but generally its going to result in a team being a sacrificial lamb...

Lightning doesn't strike twice...and when the Steelers are up by 24, don't blame me...

So the 9-7 Cardinals didn't deserve to be in the playoffs, but the 9-6-1 Eagles did?

"Getting hot at the right time" is a roundabout way of saying "clutch."

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be embarrassed to say that my team lost to a team that didn't deserve to make the playoffs. Because that's a roundabout way of saying "Choke."

Hi,

The reason the Cardinals are in the Super Bowl is also the reason football is great and so fun to follow. Teams can reverse their fortunes quickly and it doesn't necessarily take a huge bank account.

Let's face it, the country needs a sports Cinderella story like the Cardinals, if for nothing else than a "feel good" diversion during these difficult times.
