Bruins live to play again

The Boston Bruins are not ready to start their off-season workouts just yet, as they held off the Canadians to avoid being eliminated in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series. The Bruins are now trailing in the series 3 games to 2 after getting a huge 5-1 win at the Bell Centre on Thursday.

The Canadians got off to a good start in the game when Alex Kovalev scored a pretty goal to the Hab’s fans into the game. Carey Price kept the Habs in the lead with about five seconds left when he made a ninja like move to save a goal and keep the game to 1-0 at the end of one.

Then the Bruins got back into it, when Phil Kessel shot a puck that bounced off a Montreal player and right back onto his stick, and he fired past a surprised Carey Price, to make the game 1-1. The score would stay that way for the rest of the second period.

About three minutes into the third period Carey Price made his first mistake of the series, when dropped the puck to try and play it but ended up putting it right on the stick of Boston’s Glen Metropolit who put it into the net. Zdeno Chara then responded to the boo birds about two minutes later when he fired a shot past Price on a power play. However that would not change the boo’s Chara would hear from the Montreal fans every time who touches the puck and if they play a game 7 he will hear them again.

Marco Sturm then fired a shorthanded goal past Carey Price from the top of the left circle, with about five minutes to go in the game. The Bruins then shut down the quick footed Canadians in everyway they could until Vladimir Sobotka put the last goal of the game in when he bounced it towards Price who looked as though he was ready to go home let the puck just bounce off his glove and bounce into the net. It was defiantly the first time all playoffs that Carey Price looked like a rookie. He stopped just 19 of 24 shots while Tim Thomas stopped 31 of 32 at the other end of the ice.

The series now will head back to Boston for game 6. It will be interesting to see if Harry Sinden has anything to say about Zdeno Chara, who had a goal or Marc Savard who picked up an assist on the Chara goal, as Sinden ripped on Chara and Savard in Wednesday’s Boston Globe.
