Breaking News-Mike and the Mad Dog is No More , Francesa to Host Alone

NY sports radio fans are split this morning, in the aftermath of the report that Chris "Mad Dog" Russo is leaving WFAN, effective immediately. This brings an abrupt end to the "Mike and the Mad Dog" radio program which was widely popular on the station, weekdays from 1 to 630. For now, Mike will host the show by himself, and it will be called "Francesa on the Fan."

Any frequent listeners know that there was frequent tension between the hosts. They often didn't get along, leading to some fierce arguments on the air that depending on your point of view, were entertaining or annoying. Reportedly, Mad Dog is leaving to "look for a new challenge", and not due to the personal tensions.

I'm sure they don't want us to be judgmental about this situation, given that we don't have all the facts.

Just like with ARod and Jeter, the rumors of them not getting along are overblown. Partnerships don't stay together for 20 years with that kind of tension. When Francesa split with his first wife long ago, he moved in with Russo.

I've met both of them several times, personally, I would much rather hang with Francesa than Russo, although Mike can be abrasive at times too.

Russo to ESPN? He lives in Connecticut, big local name, make sense?

Maybe we could get him, Le Batard, Bayless, and Cowherd on a very special episode of Around the Horn, where losers are euthanized and no music plays at the end.

ESPN is a good choice, but the smart money says he will be on SIRUS radio soon.
