Breaking News, ESPN reports Favre to retire

After looking into retirement the past several off season’s Brett Favre has made his decision for next year, and for many seasons to come for that matter. The 38 year old debuted in the league in 1991 with the Atlanta Falcons. There he did not fit into their system and plans so they shipped him out to the Green Bay Packers where he played the rest of his career, breaking many records along the way. Favre lead the rebuilding Packers back to the playoffs this year, where they lost to the New York Giants in the NFC Championship game. Most people did not expect the Packers to be there.

Number four was selected early in the second round of the 1991 draft and only played one season for his original team. In Packer county he was selected to nine pro bowls, was an all pro seven times and won the MVP three times. Favre owns the several NFL records including: Most wins by a starting quarterback (160), most career touchdown passes (442), most career passing yards (61,655), most completions (5,377) and several others.

Favre was and is one of the all time great quarterbacks and the game will truly miss him.

It is a shame Brett Favre's last pass was a pick that set up the fg to send the Giants to the Super Bowl....Wait a minute, no it wasn't. On a serious note, that Monday night performance against the Raiders a day after his father died was perhaps the best thing I have seen watching football. Very inspirational and it felt surreal watching it.

I grew up in the 90's, Montana was on the tail end of his career, Elway and Mareno seemed to have their better days behind them. And then there was Young, Aikmen and Favre. Those were the top guns I watched as a kid and the guys you wanted to play like. Young and Aikmen are long gone, but Favre was always like the link to my childhood and with him gone, so are a lot of great memories.

As a kid it was hard for me to like Favre, I always had Montana and Young to walk me through childhood football dreams. But just like thesportsapple, ever since that game I had no trouble rooting for him and wishing I was out there playing catch with him. He is definately one of the greatest!

I bet the Atlanta Falcons are already on his doorstep... without Jerry Glanville but a Brinks truck on the driveway.

Oh, by the way, it was Jay Glazer at foxsports.com that broke this story, not ESPN.
