Baseball Notebook: Worst Broadcaster Ever

Tim McCarver Broadcasting School Magna Cum Laude Graduate at Work

Tim McCarver taught this broadcaster well, giving him all the help he needed to nail down a prominent job in baseball broadcasting. You will notice the superior intelligence about baseball being put work as he broadcasts this game.

Only a Magna Cum Laude graduate could attain this level of perfection in broadcasting. He even noticed the lights changing during the at bat on the scoreboard.

McCarver is probably watching the video and bragging about how well his student did and he will pull some strings to get the broadcaster in the Yankees broadcasting booth.

Uh....Niteowl, I watched the video, it's actually musician/comedian John Mayer's piss poor attempt at trying to be funny. I could be wrong...maybe he is just clueless.

I was wondering if anyone could be that stupid. John Mayer should be ashamed on himself if he is the one that did this. Ashamed on himself was not an error...I remember a professional wrestler who told one of the Von Erich brothers he should be ashamed on himself.

Could just be his "comedy"....but if it isn't, then yeah, he went to the Tim McCarver Broadcasting School Magna C** Laude Graduate At Work.

Clicking on the link, I said to myself, "This is either about Tim McCarver or that 'Boom Goes the Dynamite' guy..." Turns out it was just some wiseass (John Mayer? Seriously?) trying to make a joke. So McCarver is still the reigning champ:

"There is a world of difference between a count of one ball and two strikes is a lot different situation than hitting with two strikes and one ball."

First thing I thought of was Tim McCarver...loved the then that happened. Can you imagine Vin Scully saying in his next broadcast that then that happened? I guess I can't say too much since I walked home at halftime after I saw the players leave the field at my first football game thinking the game was over. So since then I have stuck to baseball.

Some great McCarver quotes: "It is better to have a fast runner on base than a slow one." "David Eckstein has 20 digits like most of us, 10 toes and 10 fingers."

McCarver hit 37 of his 57 home runs in the 65-66-67 seasons then hit only 60 in his other 18 seasons. He had a great eye at the plate walking a lot more times than he struck out. He hit .271 for his career. He was on NL All Star team twice. Finished 2nd in NL MVP voting in 1967. He led NL in triples in 1966 with 13. In 1969 he struck out only once in every 19.8 at bats. He played in 3 World Series hitting .478 in 1964 World Series. McCarver will be 67 in October and was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a lot better player than a broadcaster. His career high in home runs and RBI's was 1967 when he had personal bests of 14 home runs and 69 RBI's.

Whether this was a prank by John Mayer or not it still is very funny to me. He didn't even know what it meant when the ball bounced off the wall and back over the foul line.
