Randy Johnson 3-1 5.40 didn’t pitch that well in the 8-4 Diaomondbacks victory over the Rockies allowing 4 runs and 9 hits in 5 innings but it was good enough to win his 287 th career victory tying him with Bert Blyleven. If he can avoid injury the rest of the season he is capable of winning his 300 th game this season if the Diamondbacks offense continues to hit well…. Curtis Granderson who was hitting .375 at the end of April is now hitting .229 after having 3 hits in his last 29 at bats and is hitting .152 for the month of May.

Ichiro Suzuki ended his 12 game hitting streak with an 0 for 4 night against the Rangers. After a 3 for 4 game against the White Sox on Sunday he has been 1 for 10 giving him 38 hits on the season. Since he needs about 35 hits a month to have 200 hits he is in jeopardy of not reaching that number unless he can start hitting better soon…. Jesse Litsch 5-2 and Shaun Marcum 4-2 are the only Blue Jays starters with winning records.

'John Danks 3-3 ' of the White Sox has been a hard luck pitcher this season. In his two games with no decision he has gave up only one run in 13 innings. On April 28 th the White Sox were 14-10 but have been 4-10 since then and now have a 18-20 record…. Kyle Kendrick 3-2 defeated the Braves 5-4 in the 40 th game of the season for the Phillies. Jo-Jo Reyes 1-1 failed his first test against a good team giving up 5 runs and 11 hits to the Phillies in 6 2/3 innings.

Edinson Volquez 6-1 cooled off the streaking Marlins with 5-3 posted by the Reds. He lowered his ERA to 1.12 with the victory…. Ryan Church is leading the Mets in home runs with 8 and is second in RBI’s with 30. He is leading the team in batting average with a .324 mark, is 2 nd in on base percentage with a .385 percentage and is the slugging leader with a .561 slugging percentage.

Eric Gagne got his 10 th save in the 5-3 win by the Brewers over the Dodgers. Bill Hall and Mike Cameron crossed over the Mendoza line raising their averages to .200 and .204 respectively. Richie Weeks hopes to join them soon if he can get his .190 average over the Mendoza line. The Brewers have the longest current winning streak in the NL with 3 wins and are a game and a half behind the third place Astros.

The Pirates were a season worst 7 games under .500 after the game of May 4 th. Since then they have been 7-1and are only a game under .500 now…. Matt Cain 2-3 allowed the Astros 2 runs in 8 innings and homered in the Giants 4-2 win over the Astros.

Go Pirates! Even if it doesn't last, it's nice to see the Buccos flirting with .500. I am also hopeful that Ryan Howard will soon get his average up there with Bill Hall and Mike Cameron!

Howard is too good of a hitter for this to go on much longer. If he goes till the end of May without hitting something is seriously wrong.
