An Impressive Debut For Brett Favre in the Meadowlands

The Jets fell to the Redskins 13-10 in their week 2 preseason game. But that was far from the story tonight in New Jersey. The story was a new beginning. A new era in the land of the New York Jets. The debut of the biggest quarterback to hit Broadway since Broadway Joe, the new Broadway Brett, Brett Favre. And in his 14 plays, he didn't disappoint.

He came out to a standing ovation in the Meadowlands, both during the introductions and when he came out to lead the opening drive. He wowed the crowd right from the first play, hitting Jerricho Cotchery on the right side for an 11 yard pickup. He was fired up on each play, leading the team to a fourth down conversion on the first drive, which ended with no points.

On the second drive he gave Jets fans what they hope to see throughout the upcoming season. He connected again with Cotchery, on a crossing pattern on 3rd down with a 19 yard conversion. Then we saw some trickery, when Favre led a great fake, sending Brad Smith on a reverse around left end for 12 yards. The drive ended with Favre's first touchdown as a New York Jet, a 4 yard strike to Dustin Keller. He came out with a final stat line of 5-6 48 yards and one TD. A link to his video highlights is below.

Brett Favre Highlights

Kellen Clemens came in after Favre, early second quarter and was not very effective, although he received several drops from his receivers. His line when he came out after playing into the 3rd quarter was 5-12 for 63 yards. Brett Ratliff was impressive finishing out the game, making some feel he should be considered for the No.2 spot ahead of Clemens, going 13-19 for 148 yards.

On the ground, Jesse Chatman led the way with the bulk of the work, carrying 11 times for 45 yards, and adding one 6 yard reception. David Clowney, having an impressive camp to date, led the receiving corps again catching 4 passes for 59 yards, before leaving the game in the 3rd quarter with a shoulder injury.

Next up for Favre and the Jets, a rematch of Favre and Manning, Jets vs. Giants, one week from tonight.
