A look at 20 classic Super Bowl Commercials

The Giants last made the Super Bowl in 2000. That doesn't seem like long ago, but it's a long time when talking about Super Bowl Commercials.

In that time period, a lot has changed. But amazingly, the companies which advertise haven't. Did they do a better job then, or now? I pulled 20 classic Super Bowl commercials - 10 pre-2000, and 10 post-2000.

So, you be the judge: Are the old school ads better, or are you a fan of the new wave?

The old ones win easily being that they had the MJ commercial and mean Joe Greene.

Great commercials, Roblefko. I took a sneak peak at your UserWiki before you posted these up in an article though. And BTW, Coca Cola > Pepsi

I'm not going to say anything about Budweiser. Wait about 2 years to hear what I have to say about it. :)

Those were all done by a guy I was friendly with in College. We were both theater minors and we did a ton of shows together. He also wrote and directing "Dodgeball" althoughhe got sued for stealing the script.

It would be an incredibly viral video if we can show roblefko standing at his 75lbs soaking wet, and have BigPPup drill into him at full speed

I'll all about it. It's nothing personal about roblefko but obviously if he had enough time to scan Youtube for these commercials he is not spending enough time working. I can cross check him into the boards.

When the Eagles were in the Super Bowl, we listened to Meril Reese on the radio while we watched the game on the TV... so if I wanted to see hear the commercials, I had to go in the other room (and who would leave a 52" TV for a 27" one?) So one commercial break I didn't run in the other room to check out the commercials and I saw this one... it was better without the words (if you do actually click the link, watch it without sound first)

I went with the old ones, the score was 6-4, with the new ones winning the Coke ad, Go daddy, Fed Ex, and Budwieser instant replay.

My favorite was probably the Apple ad, although I laugh at myself for liking it bc it just shows how little I've been doing with my life this year outside of debate readings.

Terry Tate and Mean Joe Greene are my two favorites. The Mac ad is a classic...I'm in advertising and at that time both the Mac itself and the ad were very groundbreaking.

Thanks for the side by side. The Michael J. Fox one is pretty darn cheezy but what do you expect AND can't help but satisfyingly shake my head to it. Find more great classics this week on ION TV at 11pm in preparation for the big game by Firebrand. Hope this year will be more memorable than last year. All I remember is Carlos Mencia, Snickers, Robot Suicide, and the Nicolette Sheridan 'scandal' for MNF.
