Playoffs are almost here and it's about time we start thinking about who will win the post season awards. Here is a list i have composed of who will win it and who should win it. (Major Awards only)

Hart Trophy:
Who should win it: Alexander Ovechkin, Washington Capitals and Jarome Iginla, Calgary Flames
If the NHL could let to players share a trophy these to men would win it, both are there teams leading scorers, both throw the body, both are great leaders and both the Caps and the Flames depend on these guys to give 100%.
Who will win it: Alexander Ovechkin
I know we want to think that this trophy means who is Most Valuable to there team but it's who's the Most Valuable player through out the league, if Iggy only and more points.

Vezina Trophy:
Who should win it: Evgeni Nabokov, San Jose Sharks
This guy is a work horse, with no reliable back up in San Jose this guy picks up the load and is having a career year the guy is in the top 10 in 3 of the 4 major goaltending categories he quickly becoming one of the best goalies in the world and San Jose is lucky to have this guy.
'Who will win it: Evgeni Nabokov

Calder Trophy:
Who should win it: Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks
I would say this is the second best rookie class we have seen in the last ten years but none the less still great, I could easily throw Nicklas Backstrom, Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano in here but it would to much to see 3 guys win the same trophy, I mean only one of the guys I chose will win it but both Kane and Towes deserve it. There both playing like 10 year vets on a Chicago team no one expected to be where they are right now this late into the season both have been thrust into leadership rolls in there rookie year along with Patrick Sharp the Hawks have a great future ahead.
Who will win it: Patrick Kane
If Towes never got hurt i would have said him but easier said then done leads all rookies in points and his team as well.

Norris Trophy:
Who should win it: Dion Phaneuf, Calgary Flames
Man this guy is turning into a Scott Stevens everyone knows when he's on the ice, great talent, is a freaking beast doesn't care who you are he'll run you into the boards, and the guy can score.... if only the voters lived out west.
Who will win it: Nicklas Lidstrom, Detroit Red Wings
For like the 10 millionth time it seems like Nik Lidstrom will win it and he deserves it, the Wings struggled when he was hurt and soon as he comes back there back to their old selves, great leader and great player... next stop the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Jack Adams:
Who should win it: Bruce Boudreau, Washington Capitals
Comes in as an Interim Head Coach and has one of the best records in the NHL since he took over and has put the Caps in a position where they can push into the playoffs... enough said.
Who will win it: Bruce Boudreau
So many great coaches this year, Guy Carboneau in Montreal miss playoffs to cup contender, Craig McTavish has made a recent push to try get in to the playoffs, Wayne Gretzky experts say they win the lottery and put the Coyotes into position to make the playoffs still recently, Brent Sutter first year in the swamp and still a cup contender.... but Boudreau stops them all.

If Ovechkin and the Caps make the playoffs then I think he will win it with no problem. Should the Caps not make the playoffs I would hope that Evgeni Malkin gets some recognition.

I have to disagree with you there Gunny. It should be Ovechkin regardless of the playoffs. Malkins day will come.

I see your point ST, and should Ovechkin win it even if the Caps fail to qualify for the post season I would not be upset because he has had an amazing season.

It does make me happy that he won't reach the 120 points Crosby had last year.

If the caps don't make the playoffs, then I have to agree with Gunny. Malkin really stepped up his play when Crosby was injured and I don't think the Pens would be where they are if he hadn't. Ovechkin has had an extraordinary year, but he has also had a wing man in Backstrom to help him out and with the Caps probably out of the playoffs it would be really tough for him to win it.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I just don't understand how they could name and MVP that didn't turn it on until december. Had he played that way all year I would be more inclined to name Malkin MVP.

I think Malkin should get some credit but Alex has had a great season and he really does not have that great of a supporting cast to help him out. Where Malkin has Crosby (when healthy) and a few other guys that have talent.

Also known as the "Hobby Awards". Martha Stewart got screwed in at least one of those categories.

I agree that Ovechkin should win the Hart, Nabokov the Vezina, and most definitely Boudreau the Jack Adams.

Patrick, I agree with your Hart Trophy candidates, but I cannot say that Alex Ovechkin can be considered a definitive leader. However, he's one of those players on the Capitals that does lead by example.

While it is likely that Evgeni Nabokov will win the Vezina Trophy, Martin Brodeur must get consideration once again. Without him, the Devils wouldn't be where they are. He's had another 40-win season and like Nabokov, he's a complete workhorse. He hasn't sat out a game since early January.

While Bruce Boudreau should be the frontrunner to win the Jack Adams award as does Nicklas Lidstrom for the Norris Trophy, I have disagree that Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are the only contenders for the Calder Trophy. I strongly believe that Brandon Dubinsky should be a real possibility to win the award. This guy has emerged into a leading role for the Rangers and catalyst for their top scoring line and helped lead the team back into the playoff picture in the East. Anyone that hasn't seen this kid play should take a look at some of the game highlights of him in action.

I think Bruce has done a great job with the Caps, but you have to give some credit to Claude Jullien, I dont think he will win the Jack Adams but he has turned a crapy Bruins team into a less crapy Bruins team, with out him they dont even have a shot at the playoffs. And another rookie that needs some credit is Jack Johnson from LA. I know that he is hurt and the team sucks but he has a had a great year and will be a force on that blue line for many years to come.

I like seeing a blog page where there are Hockey fans and not just "My Team Fans".......I'm reading your blogs a little late I think, because as of today the stage is already set. The Caps are in, Ovechkin will undoubtably and absolutely deserve the Hart, the Pen's blew their first ever Wales Conference #1 seed (I could not believe it!!! However, are the Sens a better thought than the Caps????? If I was the Michel Therrien I'd think so, but worth blowing first place???), Malkin is SOOOO deserving but against the Hart AND Rocket winner there is no doubt. Best of luck to you true Hockey/Pen fans, my heart this finals is for the Penguins, as I have been saying all year, the team to watch in the East is the talent laden Pens... Kings Fan.

My take:

Hart-Ovechkin (no contest. Caps would be dead last without him) Norris-Lidstrom (deserving!, strong vote to Phaneuf and Gonchar) Vezina-Nabakov (strong vote to Brodeur) Calder-Kane/Price ( I can't decide! )

Adams-Carboneau (hands down!)

Also remember how bad Lundqvist's defense was. There supposed #1 D-man had a 0 +/- rating. And he's on the first and power play line.

The dude that wrote this knows nothing about hockey.

-Nabakov? No...Brodeur is a shoe-in with the Vezina. He was 4th on the Heart trophy list according to NHL insiders...and not only that, but Brodeur had a bottom feeder defense in front of him...yet he alone led the Devils to the lowest GAA in the East. -Ovechkin...not Iginla. -Lidstrom EASILY... -Agree with you about Kane.

-You didn't have the Lady Byng....Datsyuk easily wins that.
