Art Whitney (Arthur Wilson Whitney) was born on January 16, 1858 in Brockton, Massachusetts. He made his Major League debut on May 1, 1880 for the Worcester Ruby Legs. In 1880, his rookie year, he hit .222 with 1 home run and 36 RBI. Whitney played for the Worcester Ruby Legs, Detroit Wolverines, Providence Grays, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Gothams, New York Giants, St. Louis Browns and Cincinnati Porkers over the course of his 11 year career.

Most people believe that Art Whitney's best season was 1886, when he knocked in 55 runs.
