Art Shires (Charles Arthur Shires) was born on August 13, 1907 in Italy, Texas. He made his Major League debut on August 20, 1928 for the Chicago White Sox. In 1929, his rookie year, he hit .312 with 3 home runs and 41 RBI. Shires played for the Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators and Boston Braves over the course of his 4 year career.
Most people believe that Art Shires's best season was 1929, when he hit for a .312 average.
