Art Powell (Arthur L. Powell) was born on February 25, 1937 in Dallas, Texas. After going to high school at San Diego (CA), Powell attended San Diego City College and San Jose State University. Powell made his professional debut in the NFL in 1959 with the Philadelphia Eagles. He played in the NFL for 2 years, playing for the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles over the course of his 2 year NFL career.Powell also played in the AFL for 8 years, playing for the Oakland Raiders, New York Titans and Buffalo Bills over the course of his 8 year AFL career.

Most people believe that 1963 was Art Powell's best year, as he hauled in 73 receptions, had 1304 receiving yards and caught 16 TD passes.
