Born on July 31, 1892 in Terre Haute, Indiana, Art Nehf (Arthur Neukom Nehf) played for the Boston Braves, New York Giants, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 15 year career. Nehf broke into the bigs on August 13, 1915 with the Boston Braves, and put up a 2.53 ERA in 78.1 innings pitched in 1915, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Art Nehf's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1920, when he posted a 3.08 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 79 batters. However, others believe that it was 1917, when he posted a 2.16 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 101 batters.

Nehf pitched and won the deciding game of the World Series against the New York Yankees in 1921 and 1922. In the final game of the 1923 Series, Babe Ruth hit a home run to beat him giving the Bronx Bombers their first crown, and the Giants never beat the Yankees in the World Series again.
