Around the Bases
Due to working ten hours today at new job am writing a much shorter post than usual.... The Yankees have shaved 12 games over the 14 1/2 game lead the Red Sox had earlier this season. Schedule maker set up the Yankees to have a great finish to their season and have won three in a row while Red Sox have lost three in a row. Mike Mussina is back on track allowing no earned runs in his last 12 2/3 innings and has a 1.10 ERA for the month of September. Their last six games this season are against the Devil Rays and Orioles. Looks like Yankees have the best of both worlds with them leading the AL wildcard race by five games and if Red Sox are passed by Yankees the Red Sox should be ahead in wildcard race.
The Tigers are fading out of the AL East race and are 7 1/2 games behind the Indians with only nine games left.... Brewers won first two games of their seven game road trip to tie the Cubs for first place in the NL Central. The Brewers and Cubs have both been 7-3 in their last ten games.
The amazing Phillies have won six in a row (while the Mets have lost five in a row) and are a game and a half behind the Mets in the division and a game and a half behind the Padres in the wildcard race.... The Indians and Angels have all but sewed up their divisions so that leaves the other playoff spots open except Yankees and Red Sox should be in playoffs so this could be the four teams in AL playoffs.
In NL the playoff race is wide open with the Mets having the biggest lead with a game and a half lead over the Phillies, while Cubs and Brewers are tied in NL Central race and the Diamondbacks have a game lead over the Padres. Phillies or Padres should be the wildcard winner in NL this season.

It's a wonderful time of year!
Never apologize, niteowl! We will happily enjoy whatever crumbs you leave us!
