Armco Barriers
Used on road circuits, Armco Barriers are used to provide a barrier between the track and other natural implements that may lie beyond them.
On a road circuit, this may be trees or water, whereas on street circuits it will generally be pavements, walls or other buildings.
Armco Barriers have been added to most race tracks since the 1970s, and were introduced as a method to improve driver safety.
The barriers are designed to absorb the energy of a crash, and as a result make the pain of a crash less for a driver than it would be if they hit a tree.
