The Armchair Weekend in Review kicks off the weekend recap a bit early with my observations on the first round of this year's NFL Draft. Enjoy the all-night images...
- Oakland Raiders – JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU
Predictable, wasn't it? At this point, reports of Calvin Johnson's early removal from the board were greatly exaggerated. - Detroit Lions – Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech
Never mind. The Lions mung it up again for another year... - Cleveland Browns – Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin
While he was out fishing, the Browns caught a whopper in Thomas. Whither Brady Quinn? Adrian Peterson? - Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson
At this point, Adams may be trade bait. As we go to press, not so much - Arizona Cardinals – Levi Brown, OT, Penn State
There was some good news for JoePa this weekend for a change... - Washington Redskins – LaRon Landry, S, LSU
Russell's teammate only pick of the day for the 'Skins. - Minnesota Vikings – Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma
I thought he'd fall further because of shoulder issues. - Atlanta Falcons (from Houston Texans) – Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas
Will he do the Dirty Bird if he sacks the QB? - Miami Dolphins – Ted Ginn, Jr., WR, Ohio State
This pick wins my WHAT THE @*$#!?Award. How did he get all the way up here? - Houston (from Atlanta) – Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville
Son of Christian Okoye is the youngest player drafted in NFL history. Maybe the Kevin Garnett of the NFL? - San Francisco 49ers – Patrick Willis, LB, Ole Miss
Defensive shorer-upper for the Niners - Buffalo Bills – Marshawn Lynch, RB, California
When last we left Mr. Lynch, he celebrated a win by taking the injury cart out for a spin à la Jeff Gordon. Willis McGahee he's not... - St. Louis Rams – Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska
Brings passion to the Rams D-line - New York Jets (from Carolina Panthers) – Darelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh
Another year, another great pick for Gang Green... - Pittsburgh Steelers – Lawrence Timmons, LB, Florida State
Who dat? Neve heard of him, but Bobby Bowden gets a first-round for the first time since Abraham Lincoln was in office. - Green Bay Packers – Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee
Joins another defensive youngster, A.J. Hawk. - Denver Broncos (from Jacksonville Jaguars) – Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida
Speedy DE first pick from the National Champs - Cincinnati Bengals – Leon Hall, CB, Michigan
What's the over/under on how long til he starts/builds on his criminal record? Place your bets now... - Tennessee Titans – Michael Griffin, S, Texas
Speaking of criminals, let's hope he don't end up like Pac-Man Jones... - New York Giants – Aaron Ross, CB, Texas
Defense gets some more help; would have preffered it at the offensive line, though - Jacksonville Jaguars (from Denver) – Reggie Nelson, Florida
Nine defensive picks in a row; second from the Gators - Cleveland (from Dallas Cowboys) – Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame
Mike Golic can rest easy now thanks to this whodathunkit pick. I ain't no Mel Kiper, Jr., but Quinn should fit well into the system as Romeo Crenell is a Charlie Weis disciple. - Kansas City Chiefs – Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU
Third Bayou Bengal drafted in the first round. What a proud day for LSU! - New England Patriots (from Seattle Seahawks) – Brandon Meriweather, WR, Miami (FL)
Possible character flag with involvement in FIU brawl last October - Carolina Panthers – Jon Beason, LB, Miami (FL)
Nothing to say here about him - Dallas (from Philadelphia Eagles – Anthony Spencer, DE, Purdue
Another "Who Dat?" - New Orleans Saints – Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee
Should fill Joe Horn's shoes decently; just don't hide no cell phones under the goal post, please... - San Francisco (from New England) – Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan
I thought he'd go to the Giants... - Baltimore Ravens – Ben Grubbs, G, Auburn
The next Johnathon Ogden? - San Diego Chargers – Craig Davis, WR, LSU
Did I say three picks in the first round? Make it four. Geaux Tigers! - Chicago Bears – Greg Olsen, TE, Miami (FL)
Was his stock that low? - Indianapolis Colts – Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Ohio State
Edification that the 2007 Draft will go down as the Year of the Wide Receiver. Gonzalez was the fifth wideout drafted in the first round. Chachi, your thoughts?
See you on Sunday for a look at the rest of the weekend's action!
