ArmchairGM Users Pick Ohio State as No. 1

19
Vote

Ohio State received 12 first place votes to sit atop the inaugural ArmchairGM User Top 25 College Football Poll. The Buckeyes garnered 526 total points to beat out Notre Dame, who got 501 points to place second.

West Virginia got the nod for third place by one point over fourth-place Texas despite receiving only one first place vote to the Longhorns' three. Auburn rounded out the top five.

News of Rhett Bomar's suspension must've swayed the minds of the voters as Oklahoma, a team that many thought could contend for a national championship, placed 10th in the poll.

Louisville managed to get one first place vote, but the Cardinals didn't receive much other attention as they were placed 13th.

Here is how the AGM Poll stacks up against the USA Today Coaches' Poll:

That was put together well, and fun to participate in. Kind of surprised West Virginia is ranked that high. I gotta say, I think I've heard all the arguments, and I still don't get the hype. It seems they're ranked that high primarily on an easy schedule. Not the most solid ground to walk on.

By the way, who gave number one votes to Louisville and California? I want names and phone numbers!  :)

Here's an interesting factoid, the two users that put in those first place votes are 16 and 15 years old. Maybe we need to put age restrictions in place like the NBA and NFL. :-) (just kidding fellas)

That's the nice thing about this system is that those types of votes get funnelled out. I'm not sure about the Cal #1, but I looked the the UL #1 doesn't have UL fan block.

I just looked, the Cal #1 voter doesn't have a Cal fanblock, but he's a Michigan fan, so he was probably just looking for someone to put at #1 besides Ohio State :-)

Yeah, that's basically my reasoning for the Cal vote...I wanted a dark horse pick (and I think Cal is a legitimate one) and also didn't want OSU.

Oh, the controversy surrounding a non-scientific poll! THAT never happens

Agree with all.
This is AWESOME!!!
Can't wait to vote everyweek. Sooner or later, the BCS will have to use our rankings in the "calculations".

We should nominate a certain amount of us to be the "voting committee" and vote every week. That way there wouldn't be different amounts of users voting each week.

I really like that idea, Jgov.

Interesting thought. The committee must include only those ages 0-14 and 17-100. (ound good, jgov? :-)

With a wiki, where anyone can edit a page, it's going to be hard to tell someone not in the voting committee "No you can't vote you're not on the committee." I think once the season starts we'll see a rise with people that wanted to see the teams play before voting and then I believe the numbers will remain close to the same. I'd rather gain more people than start with a set number and start losing people without a replacement.

Let's keep it open to all. There are a lot of people who don't know about AGM yet who would be excellent voters, and the good votes will cancel out the bad.
