ArmchairGM First? Live Blog: Giants vs Ravens on NBC....

Not sure how this will work out, but let's pioneer maybe something new here at the 'Chair.

If you are watching the game, leave your computer running and chip in with comments!

7:05 PM:

Al Michaels looks more bored than ever tonight. Somebody please keep count of Brett Favre references gushed by John Madden.

7:08 PM:

Andrea Krammer? On a rainy Baltimore night, why couldn't we get Erin Andrews in a white tee?

7:10 PM:

Steve McNair completed his first series (albeit 3 and out) without getting killed. I suppose that it is a good thing for Ravens fans.

And now, here comes Eli Manning!

7:15 PM:

Brandon Jacobs: the real day replacement for Tiki Barber?

7:20 PM:

Steve McNair is playing a second series in an exhibition game. Talking about tempting fate.

7:22 PM:

McNair just heaved the ball and got pic'ed a la Favre. Must be looking for a kudo or two from Madden.

7:27 PM:

"Third and Fifteen - Jets." Stay classy Al.

7:30 PM:

Who is the blonde chick on this new show Chuck?

And why is John Madden talkin' bout crabs?

7:33 PM:

Why do coaches issue challenges in exhibition games?

Does Tom Coughlin really want Eli Manning back in this game?

7:36 PM:

Coughlin wastes a timeout by losing a challenge that was never going to reverse a call. Just one more reason why the Giants should fire him.

7:39 PM:

Brian Billick calls for a quarterback sneak by McNair on 4th down in an exhibition game. Brillaint. Absolutely brilliant.

7:43 PM:

Eli Manning just turned over the ball by dropping it. Start drinking Giants fans.

7:45 PM:

Matt Stover just thanked God for chipping in a close range field goal in exhibition play. Wow, Kurt Warner must be greatly impressed.

7:47 PM:

"Eli is not Peyton." - John Madden.

7:51 PM:

Manning to Shockey. Not a bad play at all. However the Giants running game apparently went the way of Tiki Barber.

7:52 PM:

End of the 1st Qtr

Giants - 0 (how shocking) Ravens - 3 (Billick looks smug on the sidelines tonight)

7:56 PM:

The Ravens just piled on top of Brandon Jacobs. Alex would have liked that rugby scrum.

7:59 PM:

Eli Manning just threw a perfect touchdown pass to some rookie named Steve Smith. Seriously, he did.

8:02 PM:

Kyle Boller is now in the game for the Ravens, thus explaining all the talk about Madden 08.

8:05 PM:

The Giants just lost Moss (foot) and now some other guy lying on the field holding his wrist. Gotta luv preseason!

And Jennings.... And Madisson.... And ?

8:10 PM:

Giants are getting injured left, right and center and yet Eli Manning is still in this game?

8:15 PM:

The Giants passing game looks pretty good. The running game however....

8:20 PM:

Manning just got crushed and knocked flat on his back. This is just so damn stupid of Coughlin...

8:25 PM:

Boller just got {groan} JACKED UP! by Robbens.

8:29 PM:

Neither team appears to be bothering with a running game tonight. That is gonna be a problem when regular season starts.

8:32 PM:

Stover pulls out his "7 iron" (John Madden needs to drop that golf analogy fast) for another field goal.

And how many more Peyton Manning promos are we going to have to endure?

8:35 PM:

Lorenzen is the FATEST quarterback in NFL history. And don't tell me that is not Sebastian Janikowski?

Oh yeah, its Half-Time.

Giants - 7 Stover - 6

8:46 PM:

Peter King states the obvious about Vick being "in a lot of trouble".

Let's stare at a pic of the Ravens cheerleaders instead:

small_04emscheer9.jpg

8:50 PM:

Kremer "reports" that Strahan is holding out... Or was that considering retirement? ...

8:54 PM:

John Madden thinks that Strahan will "probably be back". That means the guy is finished.

8:56 PM:

Fatt ass Lorenzen just took out Brandon Jacobs (hamstring?) while "running" out of bounds. Wow.

And he barely was able to run back to sideline before the punt. Somebody needs to get that dude on the NutriSystem damn quick.

9:03 PM:

Michaels and Madden are more entertained commenting about crabs than this football game.

9:09 PM:

Lorenzen just dropped from exhaustion during an inane Kremer interview of the Giants GM. {yawn}

9:12 PM:

Reese is really getting pissed off at Kremer during this stupid interview.

Madden called Lorenzen the "Pillsbury Doughboy" earlier. Priceless.

lorenzen.jpg

9:15 PM:

Some Giants guy named Ruegamer is injured. Tough night for NY.

9:23 PM:

John Madden is now attempting to explain the economics of gasoline versus diesel for his bus. It is not going very well.

9:27 PM:

Lorenzen just got crushed with a blow to the head. 15 yard penalty against the Ravens.

9:32 PM:

Kremer looks extremely uncomfortable interviewing Ray Lewis. Wonder why?

9:35 PM:

Josh Huston (sp?) just kicked a 50 yard field goal for the Giants. No kidding, that represents the first points on the board for the second half.

9:37 PM:

NBC's camera just literally viewed up the skirt of a Ravens cheerleader. Look for the pic tomorrow over at Deadspin.

9:38 PM:

Michaels and Madden's mics just went out as Troy Smith entered the game. Bad karma?

9:40 PM:

Manny Wright just clotheslined some poor sap attempting to run the ball. Brutal.

9:43 PM:

Oh yeah, the 3rd quarter ended.

Giants 10 Ravens 6

9:44 PM:

Ravens kick another stupid field goal. This has become a battle of the kickers. Beck & Posh at this game or somethin' ?

Giants 10 Ravens 9

9:47 PM:

John Madden is rambling on about "long snappers". Michaels is really confused...

9:48 PM:

Hasselback is now in the game for the Giants. No, not that guy in Seattle...

9:55 PM:

Yup another field goal.

Giants 13 Ravens 9

The "long snappers" discussion conveniently evolved into an equally mysterious conversation about Elizabeth Hasselbeck.

10:00 PM:

Kind of weird knowing that 99% of the dudes on the field right now (less than 3 minutes to play) will be cut before the season begins.

10:02 PM:

Another field goal. JFC this is boring...

Giants 13 Ravens 12

Madden just predicted that the Eagles will finish atop of their division. Somewhere out there JuT is very satisified...

10:05 PM:

NBC will do ANYTHING to plug this Madden 08 game. Kremer's "big scoop" is that Billick uses the video game to "connect" with the younger guys. Barf.

10:08 PM:

Another Peyton Manning commercial.... At least this one has got Reggie Bush in it as well.

10:11 PM:

Less than a minute to go. Thank God.

10:13 PM:

Brian Billick shakes his head as he watches rookie QB Troy Smith get unceremoniously get sacked and subsequently run out of time while trying to stop the clock by spiking the ball.

Game over - Giants win.

Good night!

I had an idea long ago that will never happen, but imagine: A pay per view network where you can watch the game with same camera views and no announcers, but mics on the sideline with NO censors. It would have to be PPV, but it'd be worth every penny

BTW I am rooting for Troy Smith to make the Ravens. Also with the whole issue at the end of the game with spiking the ball, it was pretty clear that Billick didnt bother calling a play being that they showed him taking off his headset so I assume Troy just spiked the ball because he figured he should at least try and do something. On another note I thought the Giants offensive line, particularly new starting lt David Diehl played extremely well, Baltimore ran tons of exotic fronts and the Giants had no trouble picking them up.
