ArmchairGM End of Year Sports Awards Idea...

In Britain, there is a programme held in December.
It is called "BBC Sports Personality of The Year".
Essentially, that is the main award. It is the ESPY's but better. I thought it may be a good idea for us to recreate the same idea.
Here are some sections I could think of possible awards for:
- Team of the Year (Carolina Hurricanes, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Antonio Spurs, Team Europe at the Ryder Cup, Chelsea F.C., F.C. Barcelona, Renault)
- Underdog of the Year (Graeme Dott (Shock World Snoooker Champion))
- Broadcaster of the Year (John Madden, Martin Brundle (British F1 commentator))
- Sportsmanship Award (Steve Yzerman)
- "We'll Miss You" Award (players retiring in 2006) (Steve Yzerman, Jerome Bettis, Michael Schumacher)
- Rookie of the Year (Alexander Ovechkin)
- Breakthrough Award (Ding Junhui (up and coming snooker player), Larry Johnson)
- Sports Personality of the Year (the man who stands out as achieving sporting greatness in 2006) - I'm sure you can think of people!
N.B. The names included are only suggestions... If only included people I could think of on the spur of the moment.
The voting is done in the usual AGMVC way, you would nominate 5 people, and the results will be tallied. The exception is the Sports Personality of the Year, which will be a top 10.
As a special rule, the Sports Personality of the Year need not be American.
Voting would be open from the start of December and be published when I hope some bright spark takes it upon himself to write a version of AWIR, but for the whole year... (AYIR?) Failing that, it would be published in the period between Christmas and New Year.
What do people think of the idea? Add any awards to the list you would like to see, and I'll set it all up for a month or so down the line.
