| J.D. Durbin |
The Rox exploded in the eighth inning for 7 runs giving J.D. Durbin an ERA of 94.50 for the 2/3 an inning he worked; his first in the major leagues since 2004. Earning the runs in the eighth inning turned out to be important as Arizona scored two in the ninth which would have tied the score at 4-4, if not for the eight inning explosion.
Matt Holliday had an impressive 4-5 with 4 RBIs and 2 runs. Jamey Carroll went 3-4 and two walks and Yorvit Torrealba was 3-5 with an RBI and run.

| Rodrigo Lopez |
But the most impressive performance in Wednesday's game was by Colorado's pitcher, Rodrigo Lopez, who pitched 7 fabulous innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and only 1 earned run (a solo home run to Eric Byrnes in the second) with 5 strikeouts and the key to winning in Coors Field: no walks. Even more impressive is the mere 76 pitches he threw to accomplish this impressive body of work. Last season he had a major league leading 18 losses.
The Rockies take the opening series 2-1. They face the San Diego Padres (2-0) this weekend in their home opener. The winner of the series will have the early upper hand in the NL West division. The Arizona Diamondbacks head out to face the Washington Nationals (1-2).
