Arizona Cardinals Fire Offensive Coordinator

10
Vote

In what has been a bad day for offensive coordinators, Dennis Green of the Arizona Cardinals fired his offensive coordinator Keith Rowen earlier today. Rowen will be replaced by QB's coach Mike Kruczek.

The firing came less than 24 hours after the Cardinals offensive meltdown on Monday Night Football to the Chicago Bears.

I don't know that I'd call it an offensive meltdown. They drove the field to get Rackers in FG range, and moved the ball through the air on the Bears all night. Edge had 36 carries for 55 yards, which is awful... but not a bad overall offensive performance against a top D.

36 carries for 55 yards!! That's a whole lot of carries for a whole lot of nothing! You'd think that after 20 failed carries they'd try to pass a bit more. Perhaps that had a baring in the decision?

True, but they went into a shell and were unable to move the ball at all, and allowed themselves to play into the Bears gameplan. They went stale, Leinhart was moving the ball through the air, and they ran the ball 3 times on their final series including second and short and third and short and settled for that fieldgoal instead of moving the ball in closer.

very little to do with last night, which was just a last straw... This Offensive Unit has not played anywhere near logical expectations. In other news WHO are these guys??? Nobodies, because that's what the Bidwells pay for - Nobodies!

Is the real reason for Rowen's firing because of poor play calling or just poor play? It has always seemed to me that some brunt of the resposibility should be on the players for a poor performance, not solely on the coach or coordinator.

I don't understand this move at all. The offense was definately not the problem against Chicago. They scored 23 points against one of the top defenses in the league. Chicago stacked the box all night, Arizona set up the pass with the run and therefore James' numbers, but without committing to the run, Leinart wouldn't have had the numbers he had.

The only questionable play calling was the final 3 runs, but with a kicker like rackers, it doesnt seem that out of whack. You know how many times a ball is picked when they are just trying get a few yards?

One fumble was a missed blocking assignment, one was James not protecting the ball. the return for a touchdown wasnt the O... how is this the offensive coord fault.

Plus, the O-line is one of the worst in the league. I dont care how big name your skill players are, they cant do crap with that O-line, doesnt matter if its Mike Shanahan or some bum on the street.

I think this was a real overreaction. It's not the offensive coordinator's fault that the offensive line blows. It's not his fault that Kurt Warner couldn't hold on to the ball when he was starting, and it's not his fault that Leinart and James couldn't on to the ball on Monday night. It's also not his fault that Rackers missed two field goals Monday night, one of which was his second choke job in as many weeks. I think this was premature and seriously misguided.
