Arena Out, Who's In?

The New York Red Bulls have announced that they have parted ways with this past season's head coach Bruce Arena. Many fans will remember Arena as the man who built D.C. United into Major League Soccer's most dominant team early in the league's history. He was also the most successful coach in the history of US Soccer, guiding the 2002 squad into the quarter-finals against eventual runners-up Germany. The parting of company was reported to be "by mutual consent."
This move comes right on the heels of the Red Bulls elimination from this year's MLS Cup. New York was eliminated by the New England Revolution when after a goalless draw at Giants Stadium, the Revs' Taylor Twellman scored the only goal in the second leg at Gillette Stadium. Arena's overall record with New York was 16 wins, 16 losses and 10 draws. That record certainly did not do enough to impress the Red Bull owners of the club, so Bruce is now history.
The Red Bulls anounced that they were going on a worldwide hunt to find a replacement for Arena. One very interesting name has come to the surface as the possible replacement, Fabio Capello. For those not familiar with Capello he has coached some very big clubs including AS Roma, Juventus, A.C. Milan and most recently Real Madrid. Capello works now as a commentator for an Italian network and told Italy's Gazetta Dello Sport that he had been contacted by the United States but would not go into any further detail.
If Red Bull do lure Capello that would be huge for the club. He has been very successful at the very highest levels of the sport. He may be the one to lead the Red Bulls out of mediocrity and into the promised land of winning MLS Cup.
