Are you REALLY ready for some football? - August 8, 2007

Hey hey hey football fans and fanatics and fiends. Your Gridiron Goddess is ready to nod off for the night, but I cannot shake the building inner feelings of WOO HOO (to quote Homer Simpson) about the first Pre-Season NFL games kicking off Thursday night! And my fellow SC alum Carson Palmer is going to be MY kickoff player to watch as his Bengals take on the much beleaguered and maligned and in need of a new GM more than anything else Detroit Lions. (BTW, Detroit, my GM services are available. lol)

And as you all know, defending Super Bowl Champs the Indianapolis Colts take on the Dallas Cowboys in Thursday’s other game.

The long desolate barefoot march through the Sahara desert known as the offseason is just about over. And finally, right?! It is my favorite time of year, hands down, without a doubt. Indubitably.

My beloved alma mater, Southern California, kicked off fall camp this week and heh heh the campus is less than 10 miles away, I might have to go introduce myself to the coaching staff for some live from the sidelines of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum type posting this fall. Hmmmmm. Must work on this for my fans and brethren in football love.

My buddy and cohort in football fanaticism Nacho Friendly and I plan to ring in this very special and hallowed Thursday in which our fav sport comes back to life with reverence and more than a little bit of WOO HOO! And wine. Always the wine for your Gridiron Goddess. And maybe some special Hollywood style voodoo magic spell castings for our fav teams. All y’all know I am a Bears and Chargers girl. Nacho is a Carolina boy. At least Carolina loves their Trojan players-they have 3 former USC stars in Keary Colbert, Dwayne Jarrett and Ryan Khalil.

We survived another off season! Now… let Super Bowl speculation begin! And I suppose, for doubters, BCS National Championship speculation as well. But I feel I should let you all know– USC is gonna win the title this year. But I am not at all biased.

In other, hmmm, sort of football news for Thursday’s kick off day of rejoicing that football is back in our worlds: Pacman Jones set to make his pro wrestling debut. Yeah, I so see this going well. Not. Um, Pacman, dude. Did you learn nothing from Johnnie Morton’s ill fated journey into the world of mixed martial arts? Pay particular attention, Pacman, to the way Morton, a former Trojan, got his ass handed to him all right quick like? But, hey, on the other hand, your name IS Pacman and that is a pretty freaking apropos wrestling moniker.

Actually, I have two weeks left to finish the media guide for my college's football team so it'll be really great if we could hold off on the season for another week or so...

Nothing like opening your college football national title dreams by playing a team called the Vandals. I mean really, what's next? Coming up on ABC's College Football Saturday, the Florida State Seminoles put their undefeated mark on the line against the South Cackalackie State Axe Murderers, live from Tallahassee. All in all, there are four or five teams that have a real legitimate shot at winning the national title, though injuries and of course, academics could be the real issue.
