Are the Knicks Better Off?

The troubled marriage between Larry Brown and the New York Knicks has ended in divorce and no one should be surprised. Anyone who keeps up with the NBA knows this has been coming and they should have seen Isiah Thomas as the next head coach.

Thomas, possibly motivated by the success of Dallas Mavericks first year coach Avery Johnson, has been eyeing the position since taking over the Knicks front office. He has put together the current New York team and now he will lead it. It’s the whole “you made the bed now sleep in it” principle.

The question now for the Knicks is are they better off without Brown? Sure the in-fighting is over now but what does Thomas bring to the table. His resume includes a Hall of Fame career, leading the CBA into bankruptcy, a three year coaching stint with the Pacers where they never won a play-off series and a string or rash and questionable personnel moves with the Knicks.

On the other hand Brown is 1,010-800 as an NBA coach, guiding seven of his eight teams to the playoffs. He was the Coach of the Year in 2001 when he guided the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Finals and won his first title in 2004 when the Detroit Pistons stunned the Los Angeles Lakers in five games, becoming the only coach to win the NBA and NCAA crown.

Larry Brown and the New York Knicks was not a match made in heaven but Isaiah Thomas could be a worse disaster. Only time will tell but rumor has it that Spike Lee is wanting New Jersey Nets season tickets.

Thomas running the Knicks in the front office and on the bench will be a disaster. Hopefully it will be the final chapter in the Isiah Thomas legacy that we have to witness.

I do remember Isaiah doing a pretty good job with the Pacers back in the day. Not sure why it hasn't worked out in New York

He was like 10 games above .500 during the 3 seasons he was there. Isiah was a good player, but he's like a elgin baylor (until now). Seriously, just get rid of that guy...

But as to if the Knicks are better off, it's the same. They had a hall of famer coach who could have led them to success, but it didnt work. Which means that it's the players who are not willing to make it work. How the Knicks do next season will depend on the players, not the coaches. Come on, Francis and Marbury, be unselfish (that's if they are not traded)

The Nets should get to Brooklyn ASAP. They might actually have a shot at grabbing the basketball hearts of New York as the Knicks continue to be the worst organization in all of sports.

Basically the Knicks ARE better off with Isaiah taking over. We all knew he was eventually going to step behind the bench before he left... so this is just one step closer to his leaving. That has to be a good thing for the team. The closer he gets to being fired or quitting, the better off they are.

As a Bulls fan knowing that the Bulls also own the rights to the Knicks first round pick next season too, I am absolutely thrilled at these latest developments. Isaiah is like the plague.

The Knicks are so bad now that it can only go up from here, God-willing...and good 'ol Zeke's gonna be there to sop up all the glory! He's working the law of averages right now, the team's been SO BAD for SO MANY YEARS that it has to work out sooner or later right???

At least w/ some other notoriously bad teams in other sports it was because their payrolls were low. The knicks have the highest salary int he NBA and will be lucky to win 20 next year. On another note, how good will the knicks be in NBA 2007. The team is loaded as far as video games are concerned...what about NBA street....they'll be friggin dominant

Over on Sportsdot they made the observation "Isaih has been screwing the City of New York for years, but this will be hard to top. He'll have to poison the water supply or something."
