Are the Bengals ruining their chances of becoming a 'Great' team?

With the drafting of Ahmad Brooks yesterday, the Bengals added yet another guy who has character issues in his background. My question, I think, is a legitimate one. In this day and age of the NFL where you have to play within the guidelines of the salary cap, can the Bengals afford to continue selecting players of this caliber and expect to win a championship? Yes, they will still be a darn good team to choose players from when we're talking fantasy football, but will they have the strong character guys that are needed to build a championship team? They have already had three incidents this off-season, with the arrests of Chris Henry and Frostee Rucker and yesterdays’ suspension of Odell Thurman. If I were a Bengals fan, I think I would be a little worried about the long-term direction this team is headed in. Will they be good? No doubt. But will they be able to win that ultimate prize? That something that I'm not too sure about.

Carson Palmer under center cant keep the inmates in check. I cannot believe that Marvin Lewis has allowed such a distracted to say the lease group of players come together.

It all depends on when Carson can get back to form and start. Last season gave the team a taste of what it was all about. As long as they win and maintain momentum, the team can keep those potential trouble guys under control under the auspices of trying to go all the way. Plus, I gotta believe Marvin Lewis is a tough mofo.

The Bengals are going to be the Eagles of this year if they don't watch out. They have all the pieces in place for a disaster. They have a selfish star WR, a defensive leader who is apparently the worst of the bunch (Thurmann), and a coach who not only tolerates it, he drafts it! ... over and over and over...

as long as there is 'competitive balance' and a hard cap with no guarnteed contracts, there will never be a great team again... R.I.P. NFL Dynasties!!!

No they aren't ruining their chances. These guys are players. They are very very good. The Bengals are looking to draft good players, with some character. But hey, you can't always pick the choir boys.

dumb@ss??? Am i wrong about a frostee being a dessert? i will admit that i'm not sure if a frostee is considered a chocolate milkshake or not. I consider a frostee as a chocolate milkshake with a little something in it to give it a kick.

Too bad they never gave the 'Frostee' a last name of Rucker, then you would be right.

Kimo taking out Carson's knees on the second play of the Cincy/Pittsburgh game may be the most disappointing thing I've seen in the NFL playoffs. Carson was the most accurate passer in the NFL at that time. If that play didn't happen, I say Cincy goes on to win that game and Pittsburgh doesn't go on to win the Superbowl with a whole lot of help from the refs.

I feel bad for Kimo too. It's clear that he didn't intend to hurt Palmer, but now he has to be known as Palmer's hitman.

Yes Kimo's got an undeserved bad rap for taking out the #1 fantasy player for 2005 (according to Yahoo).
