Are You Kidding Me? Leave Bonds Alone!

OK, so we all know the talk surrounding Barry Bonds and his Home Run record setting achievements. Almost everyone is wanting to place an asterisk beside his name, legend and even on the record ball. This is getting crazily out of hand. Not only does he deserve some respect on this issue but overall. He has been a great ambassador of baseball to the kids of this and other countries alike. At no time to my knowledge has Barry every tested positive for these uses. According to him, he “never knowingly used” this stuff.

So what he did, knowingly or unknowingly. It would have been before 2005 when baseball banned the HGH. It would have been when the vast majority of players were taking HGH or something else that at the time was not banned by MLB. So until this ban was put in to place there is really no grounds for using an asterisk next to anyones name or record.

Any now what do have? A player in Cleveland that knowing took HGH, prescribed by a doctor, and a lot of other people knew about it too. Paul Byrd, a starting pitcher for the Indians, was named in conjunction with an ongoing investigation. He came out during the playoffs and admitted to the usage. Reportedly he spent nearly $25,000 from 2002-2005 on the drug and syringes. He did also say it was doctor prescribed for a medical condition. How was he punished for this admitted usage? He was rewarded by Cleveland when picked up his club option for 2008 at $7.5 million. Not a bad punishment I’s say.

Barry Bonds is rewarded with boos and the possibility of an asterisk? I just don’t understand. It’s not like Byrd’s 37-29 record and 3.85 ERA over 2002-2005 set the world on fire. So the assumption the using HGH makes you that much better is provable here. Barry was well on his way to consistent producing seasons before all this steroid stuff.

We should not go around and tarnish these legends of the game. Sosa (609 HR), McGwire (583 HR) and I would have included Palmeiro on here but guess what? He actually got caught in this when he tested positive this year!

So I say it again, leave Barry Bonds alone! (Until he tests positive or admits to using it after 2005)

Barry Bonds will liik less and less like a villian as it is exposed that more and more people were on HGH and other steroids.

I have to give you credit for finding something positive about Bonds. But really, a vague foundation is not nearly enough to make up for years and years of turning a cold shoulder to the fans and public. His little foundation (which is probably really just a tax shelter) extends no further than the Bay Area. If you want to see what an "ambassador of the game" is, look at poeple like Mario Lemieux.

He makes it too easy to hate on him. He is an absolute jackass. He makes it very clear that he really only cares about number one. And, he has A-rod-ish post season numbers. Please explain how Bonds is a great ambassador of the game.

Who cares if Bonds took HGH or steroids! Does it really matter? This era of baseball will be called the steroid era, which means no asterisk is needed next to his stats.

Balco got rich because of steroids which he almost certainly used. How else do you go from 34 home runs to 73 home runs two years later. There is no conditioning program that will make him that much stronger and the fact that he started hitting longer home runs...maybe the Mitchell report will shed some light on Bonds but not counting on it too much.

Yeah but they also don't assist with your making contact with the ball. The tremendous hand-eye coordination it takes to hit 73 HR's is no reflection what so ever on the use of steroids but is reflective of the awesome athlete that Bonds is!

That is the most shortsighted argument out there. Bonds didn't set the contact record (most hits) he set the power record (most homeruns).

But it doesn't matter the amount of HR that was being hit fact is with out the contact field he has he would not have hit near as many. Without contact there is no HR! Are you going to tell me that Ryan Howard is not capable of hitting 70 HR without the use of steroids. I so yes, if his contact on the ball improves to what Barry's is he would be able to achieve that level. But without that he can only hit so many with raw power.

The amount of homeruns being hit is exactly what matters. What the hell are you smoking. The controversy is about how many HRs the guy hit and your gonna say it doesn't matter how many home runs he hit. NO ONE has ever questioned his ability to see the ball and make contact. We question his ability to hit as many HRs as he did. If you are going to make the hand eye coordination argument then I ask how is that at an age when all (and I mean all) people start to decline, Bonds managed to get better at seeing the ball.

Right...before steroids, nobody ever had fluke/great years. Never. I'm not saying Bonds didn't use steroids, but hitting more homers is not proof of that, and you can't say the steroids were responsible for the entire increase.

I am just glad that all those pitchers let him hit that many, especially the ones that pitched right down the middle, good thing he had all those walks....i dont think the juice would of lasted if he had to swing everytime at bat. C'mon get real, he is a stud................and I hate the Giants

Oh, shit. Here we fackin' go again.

Ok, twist my arm, but I'll go ahead and explain it again for the rookie.

The reason why Bonds gets more crap about steriods than anyone else is because he had more to gain...the homerun record. If it was McGwire or someone else breaking the record than he would be the main focus of the steriods and no one would give a crap about Barry. It's simple, really.

Oh, and nice reference to Barry being a nice guy, off his own website. Good one there, dude. Very insightful research.

So what your logic is, is no matter who would be breaking it they would be catching the flack? That crazy! Your going to tell me if it was Jr. that everyone would be riding him like this. I don't think so. And if he were not to have been hurt so much he would have been right there in the think of it.

To the person who said Bonds has Arod like post season numbers, that was true when he was younger but in the Giants semi-recent world series appearence he carried them up to and almost through the world series.

Therefore, it would seem to follow that postseason numbers are too small a sample size to declare someone a "choker" based on a handful of ABs, and that someone who is a great hitter in the regular season but not so good in the postseason is still somewhat likely to put up great numbers in the postseason the next time he plays. Wouldn't it? (obviously referencing all the A-Rod bashers)

Hey the personal locker room would be on the club. If I were owner or manager, I would not let that happen. It is a team game and if they don't like it I don't care how much you think your worth, get over it. No prima donnas here.

If the story is true about Barry Bonds ripping up a baseball card that he was given to autograph that is all I need to know about the character of Barry Bonds...and this was Danny Darwin's nephew that had the card ripped up.

It's all about racism/color! Wake up everyone, if Bonds were white, he'd be fine.
