Are You Kidding?

The New York Mets lost, once again. The Washington Nationals "jumped" the Mets, 9-6.

The pitching struggled, once again. No help, and nothing changed. A win was expected, but now it's different. Losing to the Nats, a team that's 15 games back. It's getting out of hand.

Rookie Philip Humber surprised me, but it wasn't great. Pitching 4 innings, allowing 5 runs and 0 strike outs. Orlando Hernandez should have started. This game wouldn't have been disappointing. Humber ran out of gas, and broke down. The Mets had a 5-0 game, but pitching struggles "killed" the Mets lead. This would have been different, because Hernandez has experience.

The line-up was cruising, but couldn't fill the shoes. Pitching problems puts pressure on the line-up. That's what happened in this game.

Moises Alou extended his hit streak to 30 games. David Wright extended his hit streak to 13 games. Luis Castillo extended his hit streak to 12 games. The Mets still can't win. Getting swept by the Nats. This bullpen is hurting this team.

The Mets division lead is 1 game. It could be over.

Facing the Nats was disappointing. Having the lead, but losing it. A team that's horrible, and the N.L. East leaders can't beat them.

Bottom of the first, Carlos Beltran homered and Wright scored. Next at bat, Alou homered. The score was, 3-0.

Second inning, Castillo singled to center. Carlos Gomez scored. 4-0, score.

Beltran homered again, third inning. The Mets lead, 5-0.

Ryan Church homered in the fourth. Austin Kearns scored as well. The Nats were down, 5-2.

Bottom of the inning. Alou singled, and Wright scored. 6-2, score.

In the fifth, the Mets broke down. The Nats scored 5 runs, and took control. Ronnie Belliard doubled, and Ryan Langerhans scored. Ryan Zimmerman singled, and Felipe Lopez scored. Kearns singled, Belliard scored. Wily Mo Pena doubled, Kearns and Zimmerman scored. The Mets bullpen made this happen.

In the ninth inning. Church doubled to left center, Belliard and Kearns scored. The Mets got swept, in 3 games.

I know that the wild card isn't worth it, but what if they are being strategic for the playoffs? Maybe they feel they line up better against a different team (This is a stupid argument, but I want to be devil's advocate.

I'll help you with it...the Mets have a better record on the road (47-34) than at home (40-37). Maybe the Mets don't want home-field advantage.

Correct...the mets still need to make the playoffs...the phils could steal the division, while the rockies or pads could take the WC (or even the d-backs, depending on how their series goes with the rockies)

Now, when the Mets bullpen was on a roll earlier in the year, and even into early August, were you bitching about how the bullpen was doing? Not likely. Everything comes and goes in cycles. Their starting pitching has not been anything to write home about either of late. Solely blaming the bullpen when they get taxed from throwing a slew of innings when the starter is gone by the fifth is like blaming the fire for burning your house instead of your own inability to blow out the candle.

You can't say the bullpen is bad. The Line-up put up 6 runs last night, and 9 runs before that. The bullpen allowed over 5 runs the last two games. SoOOoo how is correct??????MMmmeee.. DDAHHH try again!!!!!!

Let's take this apart piece by piece. Yes, the Mets scored 6 runs, then 9. In the game they scored 9, they scored SIX of those in the ninth, meaning in the first eight innings they put up a whopping 3.

In Monday's game, when they were waxed 13-4...Pelfrey gave up 7 in 5.2 innings. The game was over by the time he left. Tuesday, in the 10-9 loss when the Mets scored 6 in the ninth, Glavine gave up 6 in 5 innings. Again, not a solid starter outing. Wednesday, Humber lasted 4+ and gave up 5 runs.

So blaming it solely on the bullpen is asinine.

As for the last part of your post, I am just going to attribute it to a severe case of moronitis. You may want to take some writing classes and learn how to write complete sentences.

No one can complain about their bullpen, or whole pitching staff for that matter, than the Phillies. So there are no excuses if the Mets blow it. I still can't believe they had a 7 game lead just a few weeks ago.

The Mets bullpen, right now, is the worst in the major leagues. Bar none. Anyone who denies this has not been watching the Mets blow 3+ run leads for the past week and a half.

And let me guess, since the Mets got shut out last night, now it is not the bullpen's fault, but the lack of offense right?
