  • Curt Gowdy becomes the first sports broadcaster to receive the George Foster Peabody Award for achievement in radio and television.

  • The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 in the first ever playoff game in Columbus. Detroit takes a 3-0 lead in the series.
