Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds got his first hit in the major leagues.

As a member of the Montreal Expos, Pete Rose becomes just the second MLB player to collect his 4,000th hit.

At the age of 46, Jack Nicklaus wins his sixth Masters.

At the age of 21, Eldrick "Tiger" Woods becomes the youngest, and the first African-American, person to win the Masters Tournament.
Tiger Woods sets a Masters record when he finishs at 18 under par with a tournament-record score of 270.

Mike Weir becomes the first Canadian to win the Masters Tournament.

Pitchers Dennis Eckersley and Bruce Hurst, catcher-manager Bill Carrigan and infielders Wade Boggs, Billy Goodman and Pete Runnels are selected for induction into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame. The club's Hall of Fame selection committee conducted its voting at a meeting the previous fall.
