Appalachian State and The Longest Yard: A slight musing

While dog-sitting for a friend last night, I flipped through the buckets of channels available on said Comcast cable system. I had to change the channel, it was shortly after Chris Berman's Top 10 Squirrel Moments on Sportscenter and enough was enough.
I came across The Longest Yard, the re-make of course, and started to watch, since I was reluctant to have seen it before, but never from the beginning. One thing jumped out at me, and I'm sure those of you that have caught subsequent re-airings on whatever HBO/movie channel you are privy to, was an Adam Sandler quote early in the movie.
When the warden approaches Paul Crewe about gearing up for the season, Crewe, of course played by Sandler, has the following dialogue.
Warden Hazen: "...well I thought an old pro like yourself might have some training camp tricks, drills, inside stuff to offer up to give us a competitive edge."
Paul Crewe: "Allright...relatively simply, you need a 'tune-up game'."
Hazen: "Tune up game?"
Crewe: "Yeahhh, in college we'd start every season against Appalachian State or some slack Division II team...kick the living * crap* out of them. Get their confidence up."
Now, I'm not sure if this has been touched on here at the Chair, because since the game on Saturday, there have been mountains of things written and posted about the Appy State win over Michigan, this is somewhat piling on, but the slight coincidence was enough to make me think.
A google search has referenced this on several message boards, which of course, is a haven for ironic and silly connections between things, some are great, some are not so great. But the fact the script had "Appalachian State" might have been that much more sweeter for players that had seen the movie.
What's the point? There really isn't one, but just a slight musing on a slow news day. If this had been discussed here prior, apologies for the duplication, but as I said earlier, could anyone read that many different reactions to the game?
