Anthony Hamilton

Anthony Hamilton (born June 29, 1971) is an English professional snooker player. He is nicknamed "The Sheriff of Pottingham" and his distinctive goatee beard has also earned him the less flattering nickname of "Swampy".

Hamilton has only reached two ranking finals, the British Open of 1999, where he lost to Fergal O'Brien, and the 2001 China Open where he was beaten by Mark Williams, 9-8. His world ranking reached number 10 the next season, the best of his 4-season run in the top 16. In 2000 he suffered a broken wrist while attempting to stop a friend beng mugged, an injury which kept him out of several tournaments and ultimately cost him a top 16 place.

Despite this, he has reached the quarter-finals of the World Championship in 2 later seasons, but has never reached the semi-final stage.

Known as a prolific break builder, Hamilton has compiled over 150 century breaks.

Hamilton did not fare well in the 2006 World Championship, losing 10-1 in the opening round to Mark Williams. However, a strong two seasons ensured that he reclaimed a top 16 place.

Hamilton now lives in Muswell Hill, north London.
