Another Trade from Sabean?

Its almost that time fo year again the trade deadline is approaching. The San Francisco Giants are about 3 games under .500 and are supposedly only "one bat away from the postseason." So with Sabean in the last year of his contract can we expect another trade coming?

I am in the minority who does believe Sabean should get the extension. Because he was the man that built the team with Dusty Baker which made it to the World Series he should be given a second chance, or third. Management should be given the decision to allow Sabean to trade a certain player. I hope he is still with this organization next year because he has shown he can draft pitchers exceptionally well. The hitters however are a different story. Only one everyday position player (not including the rookies) this year has come from the farm system, Pedro Feliz and he can't hit a slider to save his life.

Now back to the original subject. Will Sabean make a trade? Many Giants fans including myself think he will, but I certainly don't approve of it. A trade however may be the only way Sabean can save his job. Unless Cain and Lincecum go crazy after the All-Star Break. Names like Adam Dunn, Todd Helton, Melky Cabrera, Troy Glaus and even former Dodgers closer Eric Gagne come up. Acquiring any of these players will be a mistake because it will most likely cost the Giants pitchers. We all know the history with the Giants and their arms. To get any of those guys it will probably take at least the Giant's southpaw Noah Lowry, the 26 year old. Lowry is one of the best 4th starters in the league with his ERA in the mid 3's. He has also been the most consistent on the team other than former Cardinal Matt Morris. Lowry has higher trade value because of his youth and low salary compared to Morris. Lowry has drawn offers from the Yankees who had offered Melky Cabrera for Lowry in a straight up trade. I'm very proud of Sabean for declining that trade offer. Morris however should be traded hes getting older, his contract almost runs out, and they can replace him with Jonathon Sanchez or even Russ Ortiz next year.

A trade with the Yankees is still not out of the picture because if the Yankees can get with 6 games of the Sox and they need another pitcher I wouldnt be suprised to see Lowry or Morris in pinstripes. A Robinson Cano for Lowry trade may be very possible since fans have reported seeing Yankee scouts at AT&T Park earlier this year. Other teams that might strike a trade with the Giants include the Orioles, White Sox, Rangers, Mariners, or maybe even the Mets. I do believe that hanging onto the pitchers will be the wisest choice for the future.

What can he trade with? Besides his two young stud pitchers he has nothing worth anything.

My opinion is to just blow this team up...the offense is too old and...well...bad to get anywhere and the division consists of the padres, dodgers and d-backs, all of whom are much better pitching teams than hitting (save the dodgers maybe)...IMHO, there doesn't seem to be a way for the giants to compete this year, but if they cut loose a few guys and build off of cain, lowry and lincecum, especially with Morris next year, they could be better and more effective come free agency next year...add a few decent bats and they could be a force...expecially in a very tough division...

Matt Cain has been one of the unluckiest pitchers in the majors this season. His 2-7 record is not his fault by a long shot.
