Which is the better deal? Miguel Tejada for Bobby Abreu or Abreu for Carlos Zambrano and Eric Chavez. Which do you think is the better deal?

If I had Abreu I would take the second deal. I don't trust Tejada and Zambrano is a free agent next year.

The second one is better. You are getting two of the elites at their postion. The only thing to be wary of is Zambrano and all the innings he has pitched over the last 3 years along witht he factthat he is pitching in the WBC. But I would still make the trade.

Why I disagree. 1) Pitching is a dime a dozen. 2) Zambrano pitches for Dusty Baker 3) Chavez is a dime a dozen player. Why not wait until the mid rounds and get a guy like Hank Blalock. Sounds like we disagree on Chavez. I simply don't see tremendous value there.

I like Zambrano because he's going to want a big contract next year (deservedly so). Zambrano is not your standard "dime a dozen" pitcher. His WHIP has gone down each of the last three years and his Ks have gone up (above 200). I agree with you that Chavez is over-rated, especially with a surprisingly deep 3B crowd.

Tough to evaluate in a vacuum. Obviously, if you're considering Tejada for Abreu, then you can't be choosing between whether to trade Abreu for Zambrano and Chavez, because then the deal would essentially be Tejada for Zambrano and Chavez, right.

In any case, it depends on the needs of your team. If you're considering trading for and keeping Chavez and Zambrano, then which of your current keepers would you scuttle? Whatever the answer is, I imagine it would make it an unpalatable deal from your standpoint. But without context I think you'd get more value out Chavez (who is overrated but still has great breakout potential and anchors the best A's lineup in years) and Zambrano (quietly one of the best fantasy pitchers the last two years). Chavez will probably have better HR and RBI numbers (but 15-20 fewer SBs and a lower average) than Abreu and Zambrano will help you in all SP categories. (The health question is valid, considering he's been abused, but all pitchers are health questions.)

Good luck
