Angels back in 1st

It may not be pretty, but 99 games into the 2006 baseball season and the Angels have finally made it back into 1st place. Yes, they may have a tenuous position there - tied with Oakland at 51-48 and with Texas and Seattle 0.5 and 3 games back, but they made it. The roller coaster of a season that has seen them reach a low point of 11 games under 0.500 in late May, now has them on top of the AL West. They are, however, only 3 games over 0.500 and would be 8.5 out of the wild card race if they fail to win the division. But first place feels good! Tomorrow may see them drop outta 1st, where they have spent 89 days of the season, but with a 16-4 record thus far in July they have thier first winning month of the season. Regardless of how this season turns out, no one can say it was not exciting, but as diehard fan, I look forward to many more days in 1st place.

Hopefully the acquisition of a bat - Soriano or Lee might give them the push they need to stay in 1st.

Yeah, they need another bat. Their minor league offensive talent (outside Napoli) haven't really developed as expected, i.e., Kotchman, McPherson, Morales.

Color me shocked. I had said that moving Jered Weaver up to the bigs was silly, as the Angels were dead. Oops.

I think the Angels are built pretty well for the playoffs good starting pitching and a good bullpen. They have some speed, Figgins, and some pop, Vlad.

The A's always come out strong in the second half. I don't see the Angels winning the division or making the playoffs.

They may always come out strong in hte second half, but they have fallen short the past few years. Unless the A's make a big trade, I don't see them hanging in there - they jsut have problems scoring runs. Since the All Star Game: A's 6-5, Angels 8-3. I think the Angels are trying to pull off what Oakland has done in past years and surge in the 2nd half - they certainly did not do much in the 1st half.

In other baseball news, the Philadelphia Phillies continue there drive for last place in the worse division in baseball. The Phils currently trail the Nationals by 2.5 games in this race for the bottom of the NL East.
