Angels Offer Weaver More

The Los Angeles Angels increased their original offer for free agent Jeff Weaver from one year plus a 2007 option to a two year guaranteed deal. The deal is probably worth about $9 million per year. The Angels hope Weaver will provide them an answer by Wednesday.

Weaver seems to have missed out on the big overpaying starter market of the 2005 offseason. Weaver is a better option than Burnett, who got about 11 mil a year and 5 years. The Angels are pretty much the only team in the running and they'll get away with 9 mil per year over just two years.

I'm not so sure Weaver is better than Burnett. He can't throw 100mph and absolutely wilted under the pressure of NYC with the yanks.

i suppose his contract would be the better deal. they are both raw talent, and unproven.
