[edit] Biography

Andy Marte (Andy Manuel Marte) was born on October 21, 1983 in Villa Tapia, Salcedo (Dominican Republic). He made his Major League debut on June 7, 2005 for the Atlanta Braves. In 2006, his rookie year, he hit .226 with 5 home runs and 23 RBI. Marte played for the Atlanta Braves and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 2 year career.

Marte was traded from the Atlanta Braves to the Boston Red Sox for Edgar Renteria and cash in December 2005. Boston immediately turned around and traded Marte along with Kelly Shoppach and Guillermo Mota to the Cleveland Indians for Coco Crisp, David Riske, and Josh Bard in January 2006.

Coming out of spring training in 2007, Andy Marte was the Indians starting third baseman, but due to both his struggles adjusting to the big leagues as well as an injury sustained early in the season, Marte currently finds himself playing third base for the Buffalo Bisons, the Indians' AAA club.
