Born on April 8, 1914 in Mount Vernon, New York, Andy Karl (Anton Andrew Karl) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox and Boston Braves over the course of his 5 year career. Karl broke into the bigs on April 24, 1943 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 5.30 ERA in 52.2 innings pitched in 1943, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Andy Karl's best season was 1945, when he posted a 2.99 ERA, notched 15 saves and struck out 51 batters.
