[edit] Biography

Born on August 20, 1967 in Evansville, Indiana, Andy Benes (Andrew Charles Benes) played for the San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks over the course of his 14 year career. Benes broke into the bigs on August 11, 1989 with the San Diego Padres, and put up a 3.51 ERA in 66.2 innings pitched in 1989, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Andy Benes's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1996, when he posted a 3.83 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 160 batters. However, others believe that it was 1991, when he posted a 3.03 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 167 batters.
