Andrea Bargnani or Adam Morrison?

With the NBA Draft on the horizon, the Toronto Raptors have a major decision ahead of them. Adam Morrison is expected to be the #1 draft pick, but Bryan Colangelo, the general manager, has had his eyes on Andrea Bargnani, an Italian player. It appears we have yet another Andrew Bogut-Dwight Howard controversy that will not be settled until the first pick is announced.

Andrea Bargnani: A 7-footer from Italy, Bargnani is being described as the next Dirk Nowitzki. He is able to shoot the three-pointer just like the big German from Dallas. However, many people are a little wary of him despite a number of foreign players making major strides in the NBA. Not only Dirk, foreign players like Yao Ming, Tony Parker, and Steve Nash are some of the best players in the sport today. If they are willing to wait for the team to compete in a few years (Bosh and Villanueva still need to develop), then draft Bargnani. Finally, with Bargnani, the Raptors can give the center position to Rasho Nesterovich because Bargnani will probably stretch out defenses with his range.

Adam Morrison: Don't let the Foo Fighteresque hair and mustache fool you. Adam Morrison is for real. The more "safe" pick, Adam Morrison has played extrememly well at Gonzaga. With an assortment of forty point games under his belt, Morrison has proven to be ready for the next level. He has even proven to be beyond that, having been selected to compete for Team USA. If the Raptors draft him, they will have a guy who can be a legitimate center. This time, Rasho Nesterovic will probably come off the bench.

I'll take the Italian. I am not sold on Adam Morrison having good b-ball fundamentals.

Adam Morrison can be a legitimate center? Was that a typo? He's a slow small forward. Anyway, I don't doubt his scoring skills, but I do doubt everything else about him. I'd take Bargnani or Thomas first.

I'd take LaMarcus Aldridge. He's a big, versitile guy who really can be a legit center in the NBA at 6'11". I don't like Morrison because, as said before, I'm not sure he really has great skills outside of scoring. I also don't trust Bargnani because he's totally unproven. I'm afraid he may become the next Darko instead of the next Dirk. Tyrus Thomas is another option for Toronto. He would allow them to use Rasho as he will be a power forward. He's phisically gifted, but may take some work to get him playing in top NBA form. I'd still take Aldridge over him though.
