[edit] Biography

Andre Woodson Jr. is the former starting quarterback of the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Born in 1983 to Andre Sr. and Robin Woodson, Andre Jr. grew up in a military family, hence the reason why in the above table he was born in Fort Lewis, Washington. His parents divorced when Woodson was two, and was raised by his mother. They found a place to settle in Radcliff, Kentucky, as Robin was moved from station to station with the Army.

In 2003, Woodson was recruited by Kentucky, and he was placed as a back up to the starting QB Shane Boyd. He made an appearance in 7 games, which included 1 start, and completed 58% of his passes and throwing for 1,644 yards. The following year, Woodson's 2005 season saw him as the starter for the Wildcats, with 58% of his passes completed, and 1,644 yards thrown, but Kentucky finished 3-8.

His junior year proved to be one of his best seasons. Woodson led the SEC in passing yards with 3,515, and threw for over 30 touchdown passes, only the 2nd QB in school history to do that. Woodson led the team to a surprising 7-5 record, and a 28-20 victory in the Music City Bowl over Clemson.

His final year as a Wildcat was just as good as his junior year. He shattered records such as Trent Dilfer's record for consecutive passes thrown without being intercepted (271), and eviscerated that mark with 325. Woodson led Kentucky to a famous 43-37 triple overtime win over then #1 ranked LSU, Kentucky's first win over a top ranked team since 1964. He threw for 3 touchdowns (intercepted twice) on 21-38 for 250 yards, and ran for one as well. In his final collegiate game in another trip to the Music City Bowl, Woodson broke Danny Wuerffel's SEC single season touchdown record with 40, breaking Wuerffel's mark of 39. Kentucky won 35-28 over Florida State, as Woodson and the Wildcats gave Bobby Bowden his first December bowl loss.

[edit] Scouting Report

Woodson seems to have all the skills necessary to succeed in the NFL. He has great arm strength and touch, certainly at the level needed to make the jump to the pros. He also has plus footwork and is technically sound. He is not a running quarterback but it not immobile either, despite his 6'5" frame.

Some scouts question his relative inexperience, having not become a starter on a weak Kentucky team until his junior year. He also holds onto the ball too much -- taking 30, 36, and 38 sacks each of the last three years -- and does not elude defenders well.

Because he went to Kentucky, some believe we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg insofar as his talent is concerned, with a tough SEC schedule and a weak supporting cast nerfing his otherwise incredible numbers.
