In both the national media and Boston media coverage of the upcoming NFL season there are a few things that are constant; it is apparent that Michael Vick is an animal lover, everyone hates on Eli Manning more than Pacman Jones and the Patriots are going to, for sure, win the Super Bowl this going February in Arizona.
Why is everyone saying this?
Well, it is true there are many reasons to think this statement to be true. However there are reasons to think otherwise.
Problems The obvious:
If the Patriots front office was running a fantasy team then paying Asante a rediculous amount would make more sense. The problem is 10 picks is great for fantasy but getting burnt when making these gambles does not show up on fantasy stats but it sure as hell does every sunday. Still, the Patriots need him.
·The secondary
Where to begin?
Rodney Harrison is coming back but who knows how affective he will be.
As it stands now the starting corners are Ellis Hobbs and Tory James! Think about that for a minute and tell me that even this team can overcome this fact.
Maybe Meriweather will step up and then either him or Eugene Wilson can move to corner if all else fails.
The not so obvious:
·The run game
This team was a middle of the pack team run-wise last year. Last year they had Corey Dillon to help carry the load with Laurence Maroney. Although Maroney did play in 14 games, health was an issue it seemed on a weekly basis. If that was the case when he was called upon to carry the ball 175 times, what happens when he is the feature back?
This means Sammy Morris is already more important than you want him to be.
Justin Hairston, the 1-AA standout who transfered from Rutgers to Central Connecticut State, walked into a situation where he could get snaps if he deems himself to be ready.
