Alvin Reed (Alvin D. Reed) was born on August 1, 1944 in Kilgore, Texas. After going to high school at Dansby (Kilgore, TX), Reed attended Prairie View A&M University. Reed made his professional debut in the AFL in 1967 with the Houston Oilers. He played in the AFL for 3 years, playing for the Houston Oilers the entire time. Reed also played in the NFL for 6 years, playing for the Washington Redskins and Houston Oilers over the course of his 6 year NFL career.

Most people believe that 1968 was Alvin Reed's best year, as he hauled in 46 receptions, had 747 receiving yards and caught 5 TD passes.
