All Time Best Sports Movies

I was watching Rudy the other day. Man I must argue that it is the greatest sports movie of all time. It is not only a football movie, but a movie about life. It teaches us to pursue our dreams, whether they are difficult to acheiev or not. Rudy's choices demonstrate his diligance, which is an ideal characteristic for us to have. We should all strive to be like Rudy, whether an Irish fan or not. Fight On!

Here is my top 5 sports movies.

1. Rudy, without a doubt.

2. Hoosiers

3. Rocky I-V

4. Remember the Titans

5. Cinderella Man

Of the Rocky series - Rocky IV is the best, Rocky I is next. Rocky V was an embarassment. I am afraid of what Rocky VI will be like.

No way there should be more than two Rocky movies on there. Rocky IV was horrible. How do you not have a baseball movie on there? No baseball movie at all? Major League, A League of Their Own, The Natural, *61...how do you not have a baseball movie up there?

How can you say Rocky IV was horrible?

Easy. Because it was horrible. The acting was bad, the writing was worse, the story line was an absolute joke, and it makes Rocky seem like Superman. Apollo Creed got killed by that guy in a few punches, but Rocky beat him after taking a pummelling for 12 rounds? How can you not have a problem with that kind of plot hole?

How about Friday Night Lights? Definitely the best sports-related movie I've ever seen. No cheesy ending, no overly tough coaches, just a story of life in a football-mad town.

My List:

1) Rudy - always gets me going, I could watch that movie 1000 times. 2) Bull Durham - A real close 2nd. Absolutely terrific movie. Tim Robbins is excellent. 3) Slapshot - the best and funniest hockey movie ever made 4) Field of Dreams - Its just a great baseball movie. 5) North Dallas 40 - a great and oft forgotten football movie starring Nick Nolte.

Others receiving votes - Major League; Remember the Titans; Hosiers (its overrated); Victory (its a soccer movie. You should watch it. It stars Sly Stallone and Pele!!!); Rocky and Rocky II (the rest were eh); Raging Bull (the best boxing movie ever); The Natural; Caddyshack (the funniest movie on the list, but golf is really a secondary thought); Brian's Song (watch that movie and not cry. I bet you can't do it).

I love Caddyshack, but I have a hard time calling it a sports movie. I think Caddyshack is a sports movie like Con Air is a romantic movie.

Remember the Titans, as good as it was, probably would've been 10 times better had it not been glossed over by Disney. Bull Durham is my No. 1, followed by Rudy, Field of Dreams, Major League, and Friday Night Lights...only because I have a soft spot for baseball and high school/college football.

1. Raging Bull (no one has mentioned that yet)

2. The Natural 3. Major League 4. Slapshot 5. Sandlot

Remember the Titan's was awful, horribly historically innaccurate, and its football sequences were obviously developed by someone who knew nothing about football. Rudy is cornballish, and too sentimental. Friday Night Lights wishes it was Go Tigers, a real documentary about football-crazed small towns. Brian's Song has yet to have any mention, another classic, of which destroys Remember The Titans as a movie about sports as a microcosm for prevailing national racial sentiments. The original The Longest Yard is also a fine movie.
