All Hail Pedro! Mets ace returns to mound!

by user Kwasster07

The Amazins' (aka the New York Mets) received great news Tuesday afternoon with starting pitching Pedro Martinez throwing off the mound for the first time since recovering from a torn rotator cuff surgery last fall. Pedro fired fastballs for the first time in eight months down on a minor league complex in Florida. Martinez threw 38 pitches, and you can check out the rest of the story here.

Beat from the Kwass: I guess Pedro will be back better than we thought. It'll be tough for Willie, whether to send down Jorge Sosa, who is (5-1), who is the 5th starter right now. You have to think the Mets won't go to a six-man rotation especially with how well Tom Glavine, El Duque (aka Orlando Hernandez), Oliver Perez, and John Maine have performed individually and collectively as a group.

Mets In Game Notes:

First off, Mets (35-20) and Phillies (28-29) are tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning right now.

Carlos Beltran returns to the lineup tonight after missing all 3 games over the weekend, as the D-Backs took 2-of-3 from the lack luster Mets.

Tom Glavine (5-3)was going for career win #296, and definitely pitched well-enough to win over seven innings, but was pitch-it for by Ruben Gotay in the bottom of the seventh. He'll have to wait another day for that 6th win, and to get to 4 from the majestic #300.

40-year old southpaw Jamie Moyer started for the Phillies and was just as strong over 7 innings. In fact, both Glavine and Moyer allowed 2 runs on 8 hits over 7 INP.

Paul Lo Duca drove in the 2 Mets runs thus far (see how I worded that, lol), with a single in the second, and Chase Utley drove in both Phillies runs (see how I worded that!, lol), with a double in the third (the half-inning later). Lets see if the Mets can pull out another late-inning victory!

Are you sure he is the ace. Really? I'd take Glavine or Maine over Pedro right now.

If Phillies can win the next two against the Mets before playing the Royals this weekend they could make up some ground on Braves who are losing 5-0 to the Marlins at this moment and get closer to the Mets.

Indeed, if the phils could sweep, which means they need to play very well tonight, then that would put them within 5 of the mets, espcially before KC, where they should win the series, at the least...They need to get hot against the AL central because the mets and bravos have to play them as well, which is a shot to make up some serious ground if the mets and braves faulter, which is a strong possibility...

JFC, how else the hell would you describe a dwarf - vertically challenged? I was just wondering, no need turn this into an uber-PC debate. After all, if slavery arguments are tolerated here along with fried chicken stereotypes, at least throw me a damn bone with "midget".

I would refer to him as Mr De La Rosa, or failing knowing his name I would call him the same thing I'd call a self-professed black guy like yourself - I'd call him a person.

Maybe you don't know the sting of being treated different because you are physically different than ignorantly minded fools, but I DO. The world ain't made for tall people either...

You claim, yet blame the very same

Actually, Tyrone, I'm not sure who you are refering to as a midget, but I believe that there is a distinction amongst the group PC folks refer to as "Little People" - Midgets are "Little People" who are very short whose other body parts are porportionate - they have tiny heads and penises. Dwarfs are extremely short but have normal sized heads and genetailia, that of a full size person. As they age, Midgets look like old toddlers, but Dwarfs look like normal adult, just really compact. I believe that "Mini Me" from Austin Powers is a midget, while Kramer's little friend on Sienfeld is a Dwarf.

I thought the fried chicken comment from an Australian was appropriate. Fromhis perception Americans eat more fried chioken than any other country. YOU were the one who made it racial and added the watermelon stereotype. I eat fried chicken and watermelon.

You can't tell people not to stereotype if you will just do it for them.

Stop skewing everything Tyrone. You are as closed minded and hellbent on ruckus as anyone I've encountered. And it's all a show. You a flamer. You just want to start flame wars. Grow up.

Also, Gnomes, Sprites and Elves are fictional beings, just like Trolls and Ogres (Who contrary to popular belief, are quite large in stature) Manny might be described as a Troll Ogre, but that isn't an acurate term these days.

I'd have to agree with Stiles on the whole Fried Chicken thing - I would think that most of those outside of the states think of those huge white trash ladies that ride rascals through Wal-Mart as the biggest eaters of fried chicken.

what do you do for a living, champ? Live off of Daddy? He's a pretty popular guy I hear...

I'm doing pretty well with my investments (I was a stockbroker you know - you don't think I'm on a computer all day to talk to you?) and I'm fairly well off all things considered. Plus my lovely wife still brings in an ample amount to stuff away for the future.

Hell, I could have a job in Chicago tomorrow at CBOE if I wanted to throw away my life spirit to dwell in Chi-town. On the plus side, I could enjoy all the Mariotti I want because NO ONE is qualified enough to get rid of him...

I saw the Third and other than one scene with the Gingerbread man recalling his life (I swear he was pulling the hole in a popcorn bag trick in the drive in movie), it was pretty blah... I'm a mild Justin Timberlake fan (yeah I said it, he's this decade's Michael Jackson), but he was useless as Arthur

Well I must admit the mission to have Mariotti fired is first and foremost top priority but picking apart the likes of you now and then for buzzard meat keeps me sharp and focussed. Kind of like Clemens pitching in the minors. But hey, I agree completely that there is no reason for either of us to get personal here or anywhere on the Internet when there is such a vast sports battlefield for us to detonate.

How come no one mentioned one of 36 year old Pedro's minor league teammates was his 21 year old son? So there are other things to do in the dominican republic other than baseball and drug trafficing, having babies when your 14. I wonder if he even remembers the girls name.
