All Athletes are Jerks Except Biggio

Okay I just had a discussion with a co-worker during lunch. We were talking about how professional sports today is going in the shitter- corruption....scandal.....jail....text message wars....golfers on 'roids- what's next?

I tried to tell him that NOT ALL athletes, managers, people in the sports industry are douchebags but I sort of had trouble coming up with names. I would do something like Michael Jordan but then realized he cheated on his wife. What about Wayne Gretzky? (whatever happened about that betting scandal last year?) Every freakin athlete I thought of we were able to link to something negative....... except Craig Biggio!!!

I need a little help here---- is the innocence of professional sports lost??

It's a video...of pictures...what the hell else am I supposed to pay attention to? Wow, this one gives a great view of his batting stance. And this one a great shot of him standing on the edge of the infield.

It is affecting everybody. Time goes by, and people just start getting worse. They start getting more selfish, more greedy, and more dependent. I think Derek Jeter said it best: It's absolutely shameful that the media gets into people's personal lives. Imagine if there was no "Outside the players' baseball lives". It would be a lot more fun to watch, and everybody would be happy.

Vinny Rottino and any other 28 year old minor league baseball player who has been working his ass off to get to major leagues since going undrafted but still probably won't even though he was the last player left off the major league roster after Spring Training. These guys are the real role models.

Off the top of my head:

Wayne Cherbet (fought his way for every yard, opportunity, and game he played in the NFL) John Lester (I dare you, go ahead, say something bad about him) Greg Maddux (The energizer bunny just keeps going and going, and will play as long as someone wants him) Steve Nash. Criticize his game all you want but he shows up to play every night beaten to hell and he never complains. Chris Simms: Played half a game with a busted spleen and still comes back for more.

My point here? There are guys that just shut up and play like they are paid to do.

You got it right the first time...what doesn't make him a jerk...I've lived in Boston and I've never heard anything about how nice Lester is... Beating Cancer doesn't make you a good person...the logic does not compute...
