All-Time Presidential Last Name 25 Man Roster

18
Vote

by Manny Stiles

Like other all-time rosters and probably a dumber reason to make a roster than most of the teams but here it is anyway.

It's another quirky roster brought to you by Manny Stiles. Last names of the players are also last names of U.S. Presidents. There was no need for a Vice Presidential roster as many of the names would be the same - unless Sandy Koufax was acceptable for a Schuyler Colfax submission...

Anyway, there are a TON of players who were named after Presidents - Jackie Roosevelt Robinson, Wes Polk Chamberlain, TONS of Arthurs, Theodore Roosevelt Lilly, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Derrel "Bud" McKinley Harrelson and my personal favorite, former All-Star Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma "Buster" McLish.

However, only players with last names matching President's last names were eligible for my roster:

The Presidential Oaths' 25 man team

The lineup:

Mount Crushmore - U.L. Washington, Reggie Jefferson, Roosevelt Brown and Mike Lincoln - None were MLB all-stars and only U.L. made the Presidential Name team

My hope is to one day have a tournament of All-Time rosters using a simulator. For obvious geeky and some personal cosmic reasons, I would enjoy that alot...

Nice one. I'm only a little disappoited with the CF position. To have a guy who can't hit a curve ball starting is a little dubious. Saying that, I can't think of anyone better. I'll let you know if I do.

Just so you know, Bo is on every roster I can sqeeze him into. I refuse to acknowledge the hip injury that rendered him as a 2 1/2 legged horse. I mean anyone who cameoed on Married with Children (except you, former Super Bowl MVP Larry Brown) is already a rung up on the competition...

Believe me, Vonderful wasn't a guy I WANT on my team. It was him or Reggie Jefferson at first and well... Vonderful was an All-Star once...

Replace Joe Carter with Trot Nixon + move Reggie to DH, and you'd win more games...

Very humorous article...one of the best ever...you forgot to include the immortal Rip Reagan who pitched 18 innings in 1903 and gave up 40 hits and 30 runs but his ERA was only 6.00 when he gave up 12 more runs than innings pitched but only 12 of the 30 runs were earned runs.

There have been 12 presidents since I was born in 1944 and the best player with the same last name of any of those presidents would have to Walter Johnson.

Hello? Coach, general manager and owner present and accounted for... I'm the Connie Mack of All-Time Rosterville. '86 and the recent World Cup rings aside (and I read Bats a million times when I was a kid), Davey had some better years between the lines than on the side.

From one coach to another - my bad. If women had not been allowed to vote in 1920, you could have used Bobby Cox (Warren Harding beat James Cox thanks to the ladies vote and went on to be the worst president in American history. Hmm...). Do you know how much fun it is to teach 13-year old kids about an election between Harding and Cox? I get questions like "Was it a long and hard election?" and start answering it before I realize...
