All-Star Game = No World Series Effect

There's a lot of topics and controversy going along with the All-Star game right now so I'm just going to tell you how it should be.

First of all the game shouldn't have [ish] to do with the World Series. Besides the fact the the managers don't really do whatever they can to win the game, even if they did let's talk the concept of doing that anyway. Though the All-Star is the best of each league it doesn't not mean that league is better and should get home-field advantage. In one league all the races could be close because they have overall better players while in another league it could not even be close but because the ones who made it for that one are better than the ones who made it in the league with close races they may win while they don't have better players. And that's assuming better players mean better league...which is not true. And that's assuming you play to win the game...which you don't.

Secondly, still assuming you play to win the game (which you don't) just because you have better players does not mean you have a better league. You can have better players in general in one league but the other league could have better teams. And in the end you don't bring the team leading the divisions to play each other for home-field advantage and see which league won the series (though that's an idea). And that's still assuming you play to win the game...which you don't.

Now lets get to the fact that even all the other stuff I mentioned were fair (which is impossible) the managers don't play to win the game. They try to get everyone in, and evidence of that was the all-star game tie in 2002 after 12 innings which they overtaxed closers to get that far. The game is supposed the very best players playing to have fun that's why everyone watches, the fact that it decides the World Series doesn't't really draw anymore interest. So on top of everything else it was a bad business ploy.

All and all this was a horrible idea on so many levels, you can only use only one thing I mentioned just to throw the idea away. As just proven this was a bad idea on literally so many levels.

But then again that's Bud Selig for you.

MLB is the same league that has one conference with the DH and one with not. This winning the Al-Star game = home field advantage in the World Series is just continuing a mighty tradition of stupidity.

Do they play NL or AL rules (i.e. regarding the DH) in the All-Star Game?

They play the rules of the host team (DH in Boston or Detroit, no DH in Atlanta or St. Louis).

I think they have the homefield advatage buffer in order to make it competative. A better way to decide homefield advantage, would be to simply give the team with the better record in the regular season 4 out of the 7 games. If there are ties, go to games played between themselves (in the season), then against Interleague opponents, and so on using the team's record from the season to determine it, not the All-Star Game. Completely agree with you.

It's logical, which means MLB will never do it.

This is just another example as to why baseball is no longer the American Pasttime. That torch has been passed to the NFL.

You know what? One team beating another one proves who's better. Pretty moronic to say that the winner isn't necessarily better. What world do you live in?

The best team doesn't always win a baseball game. That's why they have to play 162. And even if the best team did always win, the top 25 players from one league beating the top 25 from another doesn't take into account the other 700 guys playing the game. Who wins the All-Star game has absolutely nothing to do with which league has more talent.

I think the biggest problem is that a guy like Carl Crawford or Miguel Cabrera on a terrible team could decide homefield advantage in the World Series. That's not fair to the teams that actually go all the way.

The best way to determine the home field advantage would be to give it to the team that compiles the best record in interleague play. I'm not as against the whole All-Star thing as some, but it is a pretty dumb idea.
