Alfonso and Shortstop

Soriano and Rodriguez

Interesting how Alfonso has not been affected negatively by not having a set defensive position, having moved from shortstop to third base when he first came to the Yankees, and then to second base and now is playing in the outfield.

Has moving to third base affected the greatest shortstop in baseball history or are other factors involved?

What would have happened if the trade were never made?

Why has there been almost no criticism of the trade?

If you can field at SS, you can field anywhere in the infield. SS and 2B have the most strategic choices to make on the field. As a 3B, his effort in the field is less, so that shouldn't be a problem. If the trade wasn't made, Soriano would probably be at 3B to acommodate Cano. There has been no criticism, but it saves the TV companies a job. A-Rod is a draw, and they love to show the Yankees and Boston for some reason. Now, they have less of a dilemma, and can show Yankees more. So for the media, they didn't mind too much. Personally, I think it was fair enough, as a SS should be able to play 2B, 3B, and would probably be able to field at 1B in times of desperation.
